Hiya,

I have recorded the vocals to most of my tracks with a girl-friend who did not expect money, but I obviously credited her on the demo cd cover.

However, as with all musicians, its always nice to hear a different voice, and I have some new tracks to use, so I was going to give another girl a try, however, as I dont know her that well, im not sure if she expects money?
I write the lyrics myself, so its just the singing that they do.
Is there any sort of contract or deal I should give to her, that says something like, if my music ever gets signed she can get 'x' amount/% ?

I always keep it very informal. If we write the songs together 50/50 other than that approx 25% (but then for me its only ever other musicians not singers and only ever at gigs)... perhaps you could just straight out ask her what she would like if any money was made from the recordings???

Interesting question, I'd be curious to see what folks say...

yeah im curious too cause it applies to most other session players. a lot of us dont have the budget to pay people but would like to collaborate without legal pressures.

if shes a professional she most likely expects money. if you make money from the music then you should pay her, professional or not

if you write melody and lyrics then a session fee, if she writes something, then session fee and/or writer splits

LOL hey guys, I will definately be writing the lyrics AND the melodies, so all she does is turn up and sing.
Yes she is gorgeous! But hopefully that will benefit the cd cover for the record labels! LOL

Im pretty sure I can just work out something, she's not a professional singer, but does do modelling.

vox splits to 50% writer & 50% preformer

so she gets 25% NET profit after expencies

Is that 25% of the total? In otherwords if the song was signed for £500, after all the expenses I got £250, then she'd get £62.50?

Whats a good contract to give your vocalist?
