What is the point about Nuendo?? What does it have that Cubase SX3 or SONAR 5 or Live 5 don't?? why is it so expensive?? like, I don't understand the point of it. Maybe someone who has it and is willing to spend a couple thousand bux for it will tell me...

I don't have Nuendo, but I am lead to believe that it is primarily for video production and as such would probably have more features than Cubase in that area.
A well-behaved signature.

See I've used it, and maybe it's just me, but it has everything but the kitchen sink.... and avi export.
Sure you can work with video... but getting it OUT of the program and onto a viewable disc... beats me. I didn't spend long with it (only had 10 minutes left at uni) but it didn't impress me.
I'm counting the days until XT has video support,

if you're going to do video production, then buy something like Vegas or Final Cut Pro. I don't understand the point of buying something that's 3 or 4 thousand bucks (can't remember correctly) when you can get something that's 600 that's just as good or better.
Also, what does energyXT have that sets it apart from other hosts apart from its arpeggiator and low cost?

OK, time to let a fanboy shed some light. First off, I've always been a little put off by the vast price difference between the two, and frankly, up until recently, there wasn't much of one - apart from some 5.1 plugins.
But Nuendo 3.2 is really starting to set it itself apart from Cubase. Of course the architecture and functionality are identical, but Neundo offers features that would only interest studio and film/TVindustry professionals, like HDTV Frame Rates, seperate output busses sepcifically for studio monitoring/talkback, external, multiple DAT/CD integration, Network Collaboration, AAF format support, pulldown ("pulldown"? What's that?), and other specific features for syncing to industry standard devices for scoring, foley, Complex surround features, etc...to name a few.
It's really trying to be a full studio solution for the audio/video industry. I don't give a damn about any of those advanced industry features (and I use Nuendo at work!), but someone who's shopping for a Pro Tools-type solution would. And we all know higher price tags are perfectly normal (if not expected) in the industry, and while us budgeteers might resent it or not even believe it, that's how it is. Besides, Nuendo is dirt cheap compared to PT, and implementing all those extra features on top of a fully-functioning sequencer has got to cost Steinberg a lot, hence the up-pricing.
That's my take on what it's got that others don't. And to clear something up; Nuendo was never intended to create, edit or render video; it supports video import for playback. Vegas will fully do that and, in fact, I really like Vegas. It has an amazing feature list. But as a longtime user of both, I have to say that Nuendo is more advanced and makes much more sense as a full studio solution.
And I don't understand what Energy XT has to do with any of this. I'm sure it's great, but it's a completely different application and userbase.

great post bduffy.... Nuendo is the perfect replacement to ProTools if you're doing sound for picture. I actually prefer its audio editing abilities to ProTools.

I have seats for both Vegas 6 and Nuendo 3, and I can say without equivocation that Nuendo is the better audio post app. Vegas is a *great* tool, but let's not confuse the role of the two. The reason why there are two apps is that they are tailored to two different user sets. I don't know how many video editors need to print music notation - and I don't know how many mix engineers need to chroma-key a video reel.
If you're the kind of user to try a "demo" of these apps, and only use 5% of each one - chances are you might lead yourself to believe that they are overlapping applications. They are not.
And on a side-nit, Nuendo *can* replace audio in a video file, so let's not get our panties in a wad, kiddies...

I bought Nuendo to try and "future proof" my studio a bit. I don't currently use many of the post and video features but if the work arrives I will be able to. I just wanted 1 software package I can learn and give me all the features I need now and into the future.
Cheers
