Has anyone here by anychance used this service? After some browsing of newsgroups, I found two people that apparently were satisfied. But for $2500 I might need more than that to convince me.

On the other hand, they make it very clear you don't have to pay a cent until after the fact, so perhaps I have nothing to lose... it seems really interesting.

looks interesting. but i dont know if you are garunteed to do much audio related work in your internship there cause it says "no experience required". if you are not experienced an employer has no reason to let you touch their equipment for a long time. you could pay $2,500 for licking envelopes and toilet scrubbing. that's a concern you'll want to bring up to them.

I cannot be sure whether a particular studio may be under the intention to simply abuse the Internship process to get a few extra bucks and a free worker. AVCareerLink as far as I know has never had this problem, but there is a first time for everything.

AVCareerLink can and WILL refund you if you are dissatisfied up to a period of two weeks after starting at the studio. If you do not come forward within this time, it may be more difficult to return your money considering when the funds are transferred to the studio, it may be more difficult to retrieve. Ofcourse within two weeks you would already be well aware whether or not the studio lacks the intention of providing you with on-site education. Keep in mind that two-weeks is not a hard deadline for receiving a refund. I and AVCareerLink will make all the efforts in returning your money at any point in time if the situation at the studio deteriorates to below reasonable expectations, nothing short of paying out of our own funds if your original payment cannot be retrieved. But we urge you to report problems within the two week period of time as this is the only time that we can truly assure the safe return of your hard earned money. Also keep in mind that AVCareerLink would typically be incapable of returning 100% of your original payment, as there are various service charges we simply cannot get back, but under the conditions mentioned above, you are assured a minimum of $2200 of your original $2500 payment, although usually significantly more than this.

Don't take this to heart or let it discourage you. The idea of a well founded recording studio scamming people out of their time and money is unheard of. I just want to reassure you that I can help you incase you're unfortunate enough to come upon such a facility.

Ok he does seem genuine and legit. If they can find you a nice internship than it is probably worth the asking price as you would learn a lot - if you are linked up with the right company of course.

If you get an interview make sure you perk up - dress nicely, shave etc. Ask interesting questions and look keen! Good luck and all the best.

Makes sense, but would I still not have to pay a studio for giving me their time? I'd imagine they're all busy fellas and wouldn't want a rookie hanging around without getting anything in return.

Perhaps I'd be able to find one for less than $2500, certainly they take a piece of what I pay them as profit. Just seems it's more likely to happen if they contact them the 'professional' way rather me calling around begging for an internship. And avoid me the dirty work of actually doing all that.

But thats good advice. maybe ill try that first and see what happens.

yeah shane is right. you really shouldn't shell out until trying it yourself- sorry for overlooking that major point! i kind of assumed you might've tried this a little. and to answer your question: no, from what i understand you typically dont pay to intern, you are helping them with their day to day duties in exchange for experience.

this could be anything from getting coffee, scrubbing toilets to basic transfering of media (stuff that needs someone to keep an eye on a tape transfer for three hours) or wrapping up cables, plugging cables in in places the sun don't shine. it really can be anything based on what the company needs. some interships actually pay you since you offer a great service to them.

you'll never know if you're needed until you ask around. give it a shot and then if all fails try the website we are discussing here. i think that company was setup cause it sometimes is really hard to find an internship especially if you're not in a big music city like LA, NYC or Nashville.

I would def go the indy route.

Try to get some gigs on your own first.
