BONES: you have NEVER once found some music on the net that you liked, and hadn't heard about before???
I find that astonishing, personally. I have found at least a dozen, and wasn't even really looking. Even Lowfish, and Solvent : even though they are both from Canada, I had still never heard of them. Then again I live in a pretty small town right now, so it has not been easy to keep up with my interests. Nonetheless, there is just so much out there that is great. Just the other day I found a net label called Nishi which has tons of great music in the ambientronic vein. Monokit comes to mind. Too many others to remember right now.
Although I do discover new stuff through my fav magazine, Grooves.
Ironically ...er, maybe just unfortunately depending on the context... they just went all electronic, so no more beautiful print magazines in my mailbox... Now just a stupid webzine.

I have only ever heard two songs on the 'net that I liked, from different artists who never did anything else that I enjoyed, AFAIK. I don't listen to songs, I listen to albums, so the're irrelevant. Whilst I have been introduced to bands that I like, like Flesh Field, through buying stuff on spec from Isolation Tank, I don't see that as discovering them on the 'net, as I bought their CD's blind and my "hit" rate is far worse than it was when I could do the same thing in an import record store. e.g. I went to a sale once at Phantom Records in Sydney an dbought about 10 LP's based on the look of the cover-art, or the name, or something else abou tthe packaging and the only one I didn't really like was Christian Death. So that was a 90% hit rate. OTOH, I have probabl ybought around half-a-dozen CD's from IsoTank using the same principle and Flesh Field is the only one of those that really panned out. So that's a 17% hit-rate on the 'net which is woeful. There's too much static on the 'net, its too chaotic to be of any real use.

There's nothing as good as Peel, but at it's not altogether shite - you can still hear decent stuff on Rob Da Bank, Bobby and Nihal, Fabio and Grooverider, Huw Stevens, the Breezeblock, Steve Lurpack (sometimes), Giles Peterson, probably some other stuff if you're into tarnce, most of Radio 3 and a fair bit of 1-Xtra (all dependant on your genre preferences of course).

Resonance FM looks pretty interesting too, although it's blinternet only outside of london.

hey that awful man,

i sure hope we don't become just a "stupid webzine." we hope to be just as good as in print, though of course it's not quite the same. (unfortunately, moving to digital could not be helped in this situation.)

in addition to moving the magazine online, we're adding new reviews daily to our web site (and we even have an RSS feed you can subscribe to in order to receive updates) and have started doing podcasts to let people sample the type of music we cover. (btw, kvr vet har is our resident web guru).

so all is not lost!

i listen to college/npr stations(checkout wncw.org)and stuff on the internet. the only good oldies station around here-50's and 60's music-is now a CC 'hip-hop/urban contemporary' station. IMHO there's some pretty good music on the internet, if you're willing to search it out...

That's just dumb. There are some incredibly good TV shows. I'd rather watch an episode of Homicide: Life on the Street or Law & Order than 90% of films I've seen in the past 10 years.

I don't think that anything Grooves does will be stupid, and i understand that sometimes tough decisions need to be made.....sigh....

I just really loved the hard copy, ya know?

I am sure i will enjoy the online version though. As much as the print copy? no, 'cause i won't be able to bring it with me on the plane when i travel, and stuff like that.
Anyway, thanks for a great publication and i really wish you well with the new direction. I hope that you are able to make it a success.

Speaking of ignorant. You assumed that I was having a go at film, such is your ignorance. I love film, I work in the industry after all, which was kinda my point. You dismiss TV out of hand when there are some excellent TV shows that are every bit as entertaining, ingenious and well made as a lot of films.
Of course, all the really good ones are British so maybe you don't get them where you are. But still, you've had some corkers, too. Apart from teh two I mentioned earlier there are classics like Boomtown and there is no dismissing sitcoms like The Simpsons either, or Family Guy for that matter.

i dont listen to the wireless anymore except for radio3 and 4 on the odd occassion mostly at night (i find radio 2 is great driving music!!:hihi:), but i do listen to lots of webradio there are so many great web stations out there!!

I was just wondering why you would assume that someone who likes watching TV couldn't possibly have an appreciation for film. It is an especially ridiculous position given the number of films that are shown on TV. I have to say that I was really surprised by your response which is why I am interested in pursuing the discussion. I couldn't care less about how long it takes you to formulate a reply.
