A while ago someone here posted a link to Spear, which is a stand-alone resynthesis application. Here's the link: http://www.klingbeil.com/spear/

It looks interesting, but the author made some strange audio format decisions. Why is there no Wav support? No support for Mp3, or any other kind of format I have ever heard of in the 10 years I've been goofing around with digital audio.

Not only can it not import those file types, it doesn't come with a converter, or a link to a converter, nor does the official webpage even make mention of it. What's worse, a Google search doesn't seem to bring up any useful results. What's going on here?

If anyone knows of a good converter than can convert Wav files to SDIF, ATS, MQ or AN files then it would be greatly appreciated.

It opens wavs, no matter what the file options in the open menu say.

The files which you can import into SPEAR
are no soundfiles - they're analysis files.

Check the menu for 'Sound -> Analyze' to work with soundfiles.
To save soundfiles use 'Sound -> Synthesize To File/New File.

yeah, you have to "analyze" any wavfiles to open them.
