What I am seeing is a distinct lack of acoustic treatments... Is it because you're also in the living space and wifey says unh-unh, or is it because you blow your money on more gear?

I just bought an Auralex Roominator kit (the cheap one) and 5 2x4 panels of 2" foam as well as a couple of LENRDs (for $187 from GC!). I'll post once I get everything up. I'm gonna turn my utility room (9x15) into a mic room (and block off the heating unit and water heater by hanging an area rug), and the rest of the basement will be my control room, so I'll probably have to buy more foam soon (because my control room is 30x15...)

I'd definitely be interested in hearing why you guys eschew acoustic treatments though...

OK,

I stayed out until this quote above.

Here's my acoustic treatments:

Yes, it's that messy!!!

That shot shows a 3' x 6' carpet that I bought at IKEA, stapled it to a frame and then suspended it from the ceiling so it hangs about 2.5" out away from the wall. Does a pretty nice job eliminating some flutter in the room, plus it gave me a color scheme to go on.

I purchased one more that I mounted on a vertical frame with a 1" gap to the plywood backing. On the other side of the plywood backing, I put some Auralex type stuff that I garbage picked from our Aerodynamics lab here at work. I use it as a GOBO and also standing in the corner it actually makes for a great bass trap.

Here's a couple photos of that GOBO and the wall 'flutter reducer':

Backside of the GOBO:

Regarding the room: It's not quite as good as a room in a room, but not bad either.

Ceiling:

6" fiberglass between floor joists above; Soundstopper board from USG nailed directly to floor joists above. Then firring strips to stand off resilient channel that the sheetrock hangs on.

Main wall separating room from rest of basement is actually two separate walls, with 5/8" sheetrock on one side, and 1/2" on the other wall. 4" fiberglass between each stud on both walls.

Door is a solid interior door, where I put in my own stop molding allowing for some weather stripping.

The only weak links in the setup:

1. Corner computer desk - I would have preferred one wall.
2. I didn't take care of noise transmitted through HVAC- usually not an issue for me.
3. the room is 12'x12' SQUARE - yuk.

One other thing - I actually have the sub for my monitor system sitting on the desk - yes I know, bad practice. I reduced mechanical transmission from the sub to the desk by making my own isolators out of cut up sections from one of the spongy mouse-pads that used to be popular. I made little inverted 'aztec pyramids' out of sequentially smaller cutouts from that mouse pad. Having the sub close by lets me keep the levels under control while I monitor and gives me easy access to the cutoff and level controls on the sub.

Yes,

But I hosted them a long time ago on Geocities, and enough people looked at this thread that they took down the site for awhile. Care to host the pictures? I don't know where else to put them quickly.

I always thought putting speakers on thier sides was bad? I think it even says that in the manual (I have the BX5's). I don't know tho hehe, I'm a relative newb, your setup looks like an aeroplane cockpit to me :hyper:!
