yeah...after looking at all this stuff, i'm starting to really lean towards the most basic Casio keyboard. If they break it...then no big deal, but at least it'll open their mind up to music a little more.

I'll leave the drum bit for next X-Mas....plus my wife's not too happy with the idea of them making more annoying noises.

I'll definitely keep the headphone jack in mind!

Thanks guys...

Well, I know you've said no to more noises, but I'd highly recommend simple wind instruments like recorders, harmonicas, tin whistles, and a set of percussive instruments like maracas, castanets, tambourines, claves, guiros, bongos, etc.
Besides, let a kid play the ambulance preset on some cheapie Casio keyboard for a half-hour, you will truly understand the meaning of annoying.

Kids like beating the hell out of things and it will do them good to get a physical sense of music from the outset. Of course, they'll beat the hell out of anything, don't need instruments, but instruments tend to offer a great range of timbres.

I have a tongue drum, a djembe and a tabla that my 2-and-a-half year old son loves, but the electronic things only hold his attention for a short time (mostly just time enough to turn all the knobs and the volume way up). I have a little battery operated Casio keyboard around, but two-year-olds drop things a lot, and so it really only sounds like this these days (which actually worked out alright for me, but probably not what you had in mind).

thanks for the other suggestions, guys. So after thinking about it...I think I'm pretty much set on this for my 2 girls:

M-Audio eKeys (37 keys) - http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/eKeys37-main.html
~$48.00

So i'm getting them a new computer for X-Mas anyway as my old laptop I gave to them for playing the kiddie games finally crapped out a couple of months back. So I'm thinking....OK, for $48.00, it's a really lightweight keyboard that will fit on the desk + USB Powered + 37 keys (plenty for them) + no buttons on it (I view that as a plus with my 2 year old) + it comes with (what looks like) kiddie VST software....so I hook it up to their new rig and voila!

The nice thing as well - for us - in this setup would be that it's near the computer, so meaning the "be careful area" and very easy to shut everything down when they start fighting or it's bed time :) Their computer is also in another room, so it'll be better this way as they have too much crap in their room and no place to put a decent "casio-style" keyboard.

Anyway....just letting you guys know and thanks again for your posts.
