Worse than the singer for Queensryche? Worse than Danzig?
I don't know for sure if it's true or not, but someone who used to work catering for a lot of rock shows told me that in Danzig's rider*, it stipulated that most if not all the 'help' were not to look him in the eye. Weird.

*a rider is the little contract dealio between the artist and the promoter, and it defines things like what kind of beer is to be backstage, etc.

what a waste.... i'd kill for an eigth of one!
Receptors are relatively cheap, as roadshow stuff goes. I'm sure the gear just in the stuff for the stage mix of vocals dwarfs it, and whatever is in the FOH racks is in *orbit* by comparison.

All roadshow gear is probably either leased anyway, or bought on a capital-expenditure program that operates like a lease (only the depreciation is payed off the top).

Business is strange. But there's no reason a successful roadshow wouldn't be equipped however they want to be.

Does he tour with a piano player? Would you think it strange if there's a $45,000 Yamaha on the stage every night? Put the rack of Receptors in the proper perspective, and try not to think about the *really* expensive stuff in his show. Bet he has vocal pres alone that eclipse what's in this particular rack.

My question is, does he actually *use* it?
my point was that it was a hideous waste of good equipment. i could understand one, but why 4? what an asshole!

I can understand a backup of everything on the truck.
I'm not willing to comment on the artistic merits of the artist. And I'm not familiar enough with the Receptor to know whether it makes sense to have 4 of them, or how it would be rigged. One dedicated for guitar fx, maybe, and the others maxed out in voices, perhaps?

I know of an installation that's got 4 Roland XV's, becuase of all the voices needed. (It's the orchestration for an automated lobby show in a Vegas hotel.)

I think the assumption *you're* trying to make is, Ricky Martin sucks and you don't. I'm not going there. Pop music defies logic and reason.

The artist aside, I'd really like to know how that is rigged. How does sync work? Do they use four for multiple voices, or for convenience, to avoid having to change patches during a live performance perhaps?

well given the nature of his music i dont think he's doing anything remarkable with it.

Maybe he uses it to run autotune...
(but I really don't care what kind of stuff he's using...)

Just to get a perspective on the business of touring I think it might be interesting to some of the Sisters of Mercy's comments on the anatomy of Doktor Avalanche.

The real interesting bits start somewhere about the sixth paragraph from the bottom of the page.

Granted, the Doktor is probably a bit more critical to the SoM show than whatever function those Receptors might be performing in the RM one...

Why is it excessive? Why does it piss you off? And why is it a waste?

I bet they are used quite a bit. Love him or hate him, Ricky is a talanted guy with a great band and good songs. Not my cup of tea most of the time, but much better than a lot of the shite that gets discussed here.

Very entertaining reading...speaking as someone who started off with a DR-55 myself, and followed a similar path. I particularly enjoyed this quote:
DOS 3.3 is the world's best operating system for running sequencers - as long as those sequencers aren't necessarily expecting to find something more "advanced". DOS 3.3 won't let its timing or its very stability get confused by peripheral distractions that nobody actually needs (like Graphic User Interfaces).
I must dig out "Floodland" again. I always thought This Corrosion was strangely appropriate for Christmas....probably because of the choirs. :D

Another hate-thread - *yawn*

Anyway, I started reading it cause I thought it was about Ricky being into golden showers, which I recently read in a tabloid paper :D

It's not a hate thread. It's just a game people play. Sports fans do it about their teams, musicians do it about musicians. It's called expressing an opinion.
