No.

Isn't it dated by now? Xoxos has a VSTi along those lines IIRC..

There's also lots of (fractal) music generators, as stand alone or Reaktor ensemble...

I don't like to use that stuff though, as a post modern romantic I prefer to wander through woods at night, looking for a receptive muse ;)

Nope. I used to be a loop-er, not anymore, I've grown up :D

Atually, before I did loops, I did some really crappy stuff. I had several tape players/recorders, a keyboard, and a guitar with the worst amp in the world. So I'd record drums from my keyboard on a tape, play it back while playing bass to it from the keyboard and record it on the other one, then play that back and rerecord on the other one playing on my guitar, ad nausea. A noise fest, I must say. :)

I used to rehearse with my band in a box. It was a shoe box, about 1 feet by something or the other. Not a lot of space to manoeuvre but great dry acoustics
My other host is Bruce Forsyth

i already heard of a band Living in a Box

Yes, but only for the songname generator...

My next hit is to be called: 'Burning Girlfriend'

Some classics come out of that thing!

Some clarification:

Here's Band in a Box, officially, latest version announced at KVR about a week ago:

Their marketing is terrible, but it's a usable product for helping to flesh out song ideas.

I don't think I know anyone that ever used it to record music but it was a handy practice partner. It is stored away somewhere in my apartment. I should see if my version works on WinXP.
All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

A coworker was all excited about it a while ago. I think he's using Cubase Somethingorother and everything EastWest has ever released now.

He just can't leave it alone, can he? :D

Go riiight ahead, keep using your nice host that only has 2 insert effects per track and only 4 global buses. I'm sure you'll do just fine with a song like my latest one :)

long long time a go in a galaxy far away I tried it a few times as I wanted something to mimic the technics KN series arranger keyboards.. didn't work for me at all.

The UI is still perfectly terrible! They've had more than 10 years to fix it, but no. It's right up (or down rather) there with babya, even if the software itself is usable.
