Not commercial pop, not very heavy rock.

Polarkreis sounds really interesting - and we're staying in Prenzlauer, so it's perfect! Thanks.

I recomment the Magnet Club. Have been there few times and it's nice there (and I'm a local
). They always have (not so well known) acts/bands from the local scene as well as from other countries.
There is all from great rock to electronica/inditronica and all for low entrance fee. Check the web site for dates, it's worth going there.

For experimental stuff, check out the "calendar" section at www.echtzeitmusik.de
For more or less goth stuff www.etoile.de is a good source of information.
The clubs (etc) I usually frequent are K17 (Petterkofer Str. 17), Last Cathedral (U-Bhf Rosa-Luxenburg Platz) and Abgedreht (U-Bhf Frankfurter Tor).

k17 is the top Adress www.k17.de - magnet is very nice too but much more rockish than k17
