then theres the sharcs that have also been around forever, i think 15 years.

the uad-1 mapct audio/video dsp comes in as newest, unless you guys know one i havent heard of?
OK, still not sure how that's relevant. The Lexicon units that people swoon over have chips that are 20+ years old - does that mean a UAD-1 sounds better just because it has a newer processor? And Waves plug-ins will have whatever your latest and greatest processor is, no?

I'm not trying to be a pain, I just don't see what that has to do with the debate about Waves vs UAD-1. I guess you're saying that a UAD-1 is better than a TC. In which case I'll leave it to you lucky bastards that have them. :D

I purchased ArtsAcoustic reverb and have not regretted it. I usually never touch any of the others that I have here anymore.

Waves is a great value in terms of number of quality plugs, but their copy protection and upgrade policies as of late are real shit. I also hate the dumb vstshell deal... wish they'd just make native vst plugs... I'd probably stop complaining completely if they did that. Doubt they ever will though.

That one sort of gets me as well. You don't get not a one plugin with the APA things. The APA boxes just provide some processing... to run a small portion of the existing Waves line... that you ALREADY own or plan to purchase seperately. Why not spend $2,000 on a new SMOKING computer and run whatever you like through FXTeleport. The Waves boxes communicate over ethernet anyway. Am I missing something? Is the stand alone processing THAT great?

Sorry to get OT.
Anyone picked one of these up and can comment?

A friend and I are doing a project where he mixes half the tunes and I mix the other half---He uses primarily waves and I use primarily UAD-1--just based on the rough mixes we have done I can't say that one is "better" than the other. both of us have alot of expierence mixing at this point. We both do things differently to get the similiar results and have adapted to our plug in choices to make that happen. I think the important thing is that whatever you get learn how to use it inside and out. It took me months to figure out all of the ends and outs of the UAD-1 plugs and I'm still discovering things.

I mix with those free plugins that don't actually have a GUI. Beats Waves every time.

You know,

it's always good to know that your stuff did cost you lotsa money. This gives you more confidence in your sound and that alone makes it sound way better than all the poor stuff that is mixed with freeware stuff everybody can afford to download. Even if your stuff runs on outdated DSP chips. That gives it even more vintage character. :hihi:
The buzz word for all this is: BLINDTESTS!!! Let your ears decide and not your ego. I know it's hard to do this but it could help a lot. Right after that comes usability ...
