I used to rehearse with my band in a box. It was a shoe box, about 1 feet by something or the other. Not a lot of space to manoeuvre but great dry acoustics

Thanks for that. Reminds me of some good ol days. Let me paint the scene.....4 guys crammed into an 8x10 storage closet in a dank basement, cinder block walls, 1 flourescent light.

Full 12 piece drumset (drummer had to crawl in through his kit to sit behind it), Keyboard rack, bass & guitar amplifiers and standing room only. We actually had to keep the door open so the bass player could jam just outside without hurting himself (he liked to throw himself about) Plus if closed it got pretty gamey Good mates n good times

our drummer had a Tama Grandstar with a snare almost as expensive as the rest of the set.. sounded loud as f**k

no good in a shoe box!!... noooooo good at all!!!!

I had a look at BIAB but found the UI too confusing... I went for Jammer Pro instead. The UI is better... but not quite the way I wanted it.

Jump, by Hard Note, is much better. Interactive in a way Jammer Pro isn't but I found I went past it's limitations too quickly.

So, I've started writing something myself, incorporating ideas from a variety of sources. It's a bit like Jump but with a view to going much further... I'm also considering VSTi support.

At the moment, I can quickly try out some melody, export it to MIDI and load it into FL Studio and see if it works... bypassing MIDI export and going straight to FL Studio would improve things! Pity ReWire isn't available to me as a developer; so VSTi seems the way to go for now.

Propheads have a truly shitty policy. I would have
liked to have access to ReWire as well.. but no can
do.

I'm not sure about their agenda. Why make the
distinction between software corporations and
dedicated individual developers. A lot of the
really popular applications around KVR have in
fact been developed by individuals.

I use band in a box for guitar practice.
It has heaps of different genres.
I set it up with Cakewalk TTS-1
and it sounds ok.....
That's all I use it for.
Pick a chord progression
jazz rock pop country whatever
loop it and play along.

why not implement midi out for your program? then you can use midiOX or a similar virtual midi cable to record directly into FL. with FL 6 multiple midi ins will be possible, so you could still use a keyboard/midi controller at the same time.

I´m always working with the following setup which works without any problems and which is very satisfying for me:
Jammer Pro Midi out -> Midi Yoke virtual midi cable driver -> Chainer (or EXT) Midi in.
So I can instantly hear the results using the VSTis and VSTfx I want.

Trouble is FL Studio 5 doesn't route MIDI in very well. Waiting for FL Studio 6...

That was something heading into the direction, even if you had to record your one-finger-chords.
Apart from that, it's indeed amazing that there's no true sequencer offering BIAB-like functionality.

Personally, I used BIAB (version 2 or so) occasionally back in the Atari days. It's been a kickass practising tool, especially as I had to prepare for the entry qualification of some jazz conservatories.
Of course I would've never used it for anything serious, but as a practising thing and sort of scrapbook it seems to work quite well. Wish they had at least some 1-track audio recorder, so you could record your noodlings.

In addition, I've hardly ever seen better printed lead sheets in "real book style" than what BIAB was delivering. They're looking just great.

Anyways, would be really great if something like that could be incorporated into a sequencer. nuffink's ChordSpace isn't bad, but you still need to "operate" it, rather than just typing in some chord progression.

On the other hand, learning to play those chords on a MIDI keyboard (or even entering them via step edit modes) should have quite some educational value as well, no?

Oh, it's had built-in recording for several years now. And you can record vocals (or anything else) from a mike into it, should you care to.

tracktion works better for jamming. i just load up a drum set, a bass, and an organ. i plink out some parts for em, slice em and arrange them. instant back up for guitar........ and it's mine
