It seems more and more keep dangling the carrot, but we wait, we talk about it, it gets lots of attention, we post about it more, it gets more attention...still no release, but we talk about it more, it gets more attention, it still doesn't come out...we wait and we talk about it more, it gets more attention...some people pre-oreder it...still it doesn't come, we talk about more, someone else says they love it, more pre-orders.. It just seems we are waiting for a lot of stuff these days...didn't FL say over a week ago that the stores had the boxed versions and the download would be available in a week? Is this the new marketting plan for the "oughts"?

Anyway you see it I don't like it, I have already decided at this point I wouldn't buy a guitar pick from IK, at least one private developer here and I think FL is trying to beat their free upgrade policy by getting the boxed versions in the store first.

I know people get mad and want to boycott companies over less. I'm fed up with the trend and think we as the consumers they are targetting we should make it clear that it's crap and we don't like being assumed to be this stupid... :x

I say that we make it clear to these companies..."SHIT OR GET OFF THE POT"...I say stick with the developers that are still trying to make a name for themselves, thankfully we have some good ones here. But what does this speak of the customer service from these other companies who play head games with us?

I say don't make promises you know you aren't going to keep, if you do I say we run them out of town so those here who actually respect and appreciate their customers can make it. :x

of course now I'm gonna lose the free wasp that FL gave when I beta-tested for them once

I'm more interested in Midiworks' amp sim than AT2 at this point.

actually I really dont care about amp sims, it's the idea that bothers me...right now if someone goes into GC they can buy FL6, but us loyal customers have to wait...wtf? FWIW, I have bought two copies of FL...one for me and one for my son....I think I have earned to have it before it hits the "streets" imo. At least Sonar said when 5 would be out, and it was...

FWIW FL is just my drum machine anyhow, but I want the upgrade, so I keep going to pooptalk to check on it. I want to delete that link as soon as possible...;)

I don't think you've earned a right to have it before it hits the streets, but I do think you've got the right for the company to be straigh forward with you. I mentioned AT2 as an example of a company not being straight forward with it's customers.

hehe, i still remember when you were new to most of this and just a recent FL buyer and you seemed so happy back then. also remember you getting an additional license for your son.
FL users... they grow up sooo fast. *sigh* one moment they just hatched and then they are old enough to marry your grandmother. :hihi:

(all in good humor. i hope you know that)

on topic: i do not purchase much software, but from the recent threads, it seems that your observation might have some truth to it. also has to do with consumers and their ism, though, i am sure.

I still love FL, that won't change  I'm not going to put down the quality at all...but please, they were able to get box version out but not the free upgrade download? BTW when I got FL I was old enough to marry your grandmother...:hihi:

I will say I find it amusing that with all the bitching about skinning (which you know I think is crap) they made the forum skinnable...

But FL isn't the center of my focus, I know them to be a stand up company and have a lot respect for them. I just dont think they are showing the same respect back towards their customers (we should get it first, if not just to be able to help newbies). I am more concerned that FL is incorporating new sales tactics that speaks of perhaps they're not selling as well as they have in the past (I hope I'm wrong).

But I'm more concerned about the trend, showing us teasers and getting us to talk about software is free advertising and exploits us...

and fabi, of course I know it's all in fun...:)

HI

I think KVR members have a 'life cycle' that goes through various phases: when your post count get's up into the 1,000's it is (possibly, probably, certainly?) a by-product of spending too much time being seduced by the never ending yet understandable need of the business's that frequent this site to 'GRAB YOUR ATTENTION' and money with their wares.

I was amazed that I was in the top 100 of posters and had a reality check - is getting an up-date REALLY that important to me ... or you for that matter?

My advice is take a reality check and see what conclusion you come to - I don't mean that in a bad way, but rather as a measuring tool to see if your caught up in the sales pitch that these companies are throwing 'our' way.

I think I have turned a corner and am spending less time screwing around here, spending less money and more time working on projects that were my original focus prior to discovering KVR.

FWIW I have been waiting for AMG's sampler for almost a year and am wondering if I will ever get what I have already paid for - or if it has turned into vaporware - I just can't be arsed to pursue the dev/distributor anymore.

Bottom line is: KVR is a multi-faceted forum that is not only here for people to talk software but is probably a central sales, marketing and R&D area - you are always going to be aware of software months if not years before it's final release: that's the price you pay for being informed.

I do agree with the sentiment though: why can't they give details once the beta is in full swing ... unfortunately I think I already explined why this might not generally be the case.

Flipper.

I think holding your cards close to your vest is always wise... Not to pick on FL because it's not about them, but a pattern I see emerging....look at how the forums go...feature requests, angst over when it will come out, and when it does come out there's anger over features that have changed, the upgrade not really being all that good, why didn't they add this? Most users are pleased (I always have), but many are also disapointed. You don't suppose that perhaps the teasers they start with over-hype the update and when it comes out people expect more. Thus as great as an upgrade as it is (FL5 was a great upgrade) some may have expected more and then they feel let down...

Always some drama in poopkvr.

FL 6.0.0 was sent to the stores. IL wants to release 6.0.1 for the web - because of rigid timeline when dealing with "real" stores, they had to give them a version which they didn't want to release to internet just yet. (which will be a free update for those who bought it in the store).

Also stores don't exactly play ball synchronizing release dates with IL - they do whatever they want, even if IL wanted them to wait.

are you or have you been in music retail? I see your point, but it's not that cut and dry...trust me the music stores make the same whether FL is out for xmas or not....people still buy, they just buy something else...so again it's more in the advantage for the software company then the store to have it in the stores quickly, then give the customers an upgrade.

BTW, I am in no rush for the upgrade, I said before and still mean it...I have some projects I want to finish before I learn new features. Otherwise those songs might slip away (a pattern in my life) so I'm not bitching about "where's my upgrade"...my beef is with the marketting trends overall (and not just music or software)...one grows weary.

I wasn't even aware that NI was working on B42, I haven't gotten it yet...but I will. So it's not about patience, it's about respect...;)

I am just giving you the same info that JM gave us: he's trying to juggle a bunch of schedules of all the people and organizations involved. At some point the stores asked for new stock but some of the components IL wanted to release with FL6 were not delievered by third parties. There's no conspiracy.

 no offense intended...bear in mind I am speaking of more then FL and I repeat I have nothing but respect for jmc, and I'm quite sure he knows it...hell I even sent him a pm in July wishing his son a happy first birthday.

However marketting and sales by nature are a comspiracy imo...

I was just thinking about how shithouse this "announce and miss" paradigm is yesterday but it occurred to me that it was just the low point in my "where's AT2 and FLS6" thought cycle. Although, imagine going into a store every week to see where your new fridge, car, guitar or whatever is. If I was told a date for arrival and it was not there pretty soon after, I would not just be sitting quietly, many months down the track, tolerating being fed a bucket of crap every week.

I'm nowhere near that kind of score, but the penny has dropped, yep. There's always something new, something on sale, something that's the hottest... :o

I've spreadsheeted what I'm willing to spend, and the list of 'gotta haves' shrank a hell of a lot...

I'm quite fond of 'deals': that chance to get 20% or whatever off the price...especially if it's a synth with zugillions of presets (being lazy). But lately, I've found myself thinking "hmm, it's hard to tell the difference between 'x' on synth 'A' and 'y' on synth 'B'..."

That being said...I would be happy if FL had v.6 out by mid-month. Although, I'm so new to it that I haven't cracked all the functions of v.5

:tantrum: And where the hell is Ethnotronic from BITR? That is something rather out-of-the-ordinary 8) , and can be justified, even with this line of thinking...
