Any tryed this one? What do you think about this "magic tool" for real pro mastering?

Post

Not tried it. I use HarBal. I think they have similarities in that they steer you in the right direction to improve the sound of your mix. HarBal has helped me to develop a better idea of what a decent (IMO) mix looks and sounds like. I think AAMS does this and also some other things. I have a feeling though (don't quote me) that AAMS does not do any sound processing and that it simply produces suggestions for eq and compression that you need to apply using other plugins. I also have the feeling that these suggestions come in the form of presets that it outputs for you to use. I THINK it outputs for Firium EQ (pretty sure) and Ozone (not sure about this one at all). I also think that AAMS will eventually include its own built in sound processing but no idea when. Just thought I would pass on what little I know and bump your thread.

That's mostly true. AAMS 1.5 will carefully analyze the spectral content of your mix, compare it to any reference mix (preset or any song of choice) and will create a new file that has been equalized with a new 100-band EQ. (I think that's a pretty rare thing, 100-band EQ!)

Then it provides you with precise suggestions for Multiband Limiting and Loudness, which you follow with your plug-ins of choice (you can choose from common models). v1.0 you had to save to a firium file, but now he's got his own crazy DSP-EQ, so you don't have to if you don't want to.

Now he is working on making AAMS an all-in-one solution, and the EQ is the first step. I will say that I've been using AAMS since February, and it's been an invaluable tool for mastering and helping me find out what's wrong with my mixes. I love it. I've also learned much more about the mastering process; it's a very detailed program and Denis really knows his stuff. His support is excellent, friendly and attentive - if you are confused or you have a problem, he'll take care of it.

I discovered AAMS first, so Har-Bal just doesn't suit my needs. I know a lot of people use Har-Bal and it's a valuable tool, so you should try both. The AAMS demo is 21-day fully functional and that helped make up my mind too. But I urge anyone to try it; it's affordable and works well, with the first fully automatic mastering solution coming soon!

Sounds interesting. How much does it cost? I couldn't find the price on their website.

Cheap as dirt: $40 EUR. Click "registration" and the PayPal to get the price. The website is a little awkward, I know.

Thanks bduffy. I'll try the demo. I'm kinda new in the field of mixing and mastering, and actually mastering is the hardest part to me. Getting a well balanced track isn't easy, if this plugin helps me to understand how I can improve that, I'll buy it.

that alone makes sure that i'll probably be going for this instead of harbal, once i feel like investing more time into mastering again. don't have a credit card and if it requires one, there's a 99% chance i won't buy it.

Do you have a PayPal account? If not, I think you can open one without a credit card, with your bank account information.
Then, with PayPal you can get a "virtual" credit card (i.e. they generate a card number for you, that you can use on almost any site, I think).

Virtual credit card? I don't think so. I have a PayPal account (the only way I can do online payments) and I don't recall seeing or hearing anything about that. But depending on where you live, you can hook your PayPal account right up to your bank account and blow all your cash on VST plugins! That's how I bought AAMS.

If you're kinda new to the whole field, you might want to wait for version 2.0 with the full mastering suite included, but by all means check it out and consult the FAQs on the site.

I'm positive that function exists, because I've used it a couple times.
