Reason vs. Cubase Blind Testing @ DOA

Just thought some here might find this interesting...
Someone pulled the ol' Pepsi challenge using one single sample exported from Cubase and reason. The sample was otherwise completely unprocessed outside of normalization:
http://www.dogsonacid.com/showthread.ph ... genumber=1
The threadstarter gave 2 samples and asked people not only if they could tell which came from which, but which they thought sounded *better*
Interesting enough, the majority of those that heard the difference voted "Reason is A but B sounds better".
Just curious to what people think of the test itself more than the actual results.

So this is NN-XT vs. actual host audio?
I don't think that's really a fair comparison at all... a sampler and an audio sequencer don't necessarily have the same requirements. It's perfectly possible that the two sound 100% the same, but you can't just assume something like that between two different kinds of audio playback paradigms.

He patched it through Reason's mixer rather than straight to the outs (WHY?), so the mixers of the two apps are applying different panning laws...so before anyone gets excited, the test is invalid.

What the hell? Reason is the best there is! It's better than Cubase in every way! You just suck!
Just kidding.
Too lazy to sign up just to listen to those samples. What's the point in comparing them, anyway?

Sorry, that's "20-30%" better.AD80 wrote:Whats the point of this test anyways? Tracktion sounds better than Reason and Cubase combined times 100. Why even waste your time.

I'm not going to get into what sounds better or worse, but not a single sequencer sounds exactly the same like any other, especially when it comes to the playback of vstis, and rendering of vst effects.
