Has anyone heard Mark Mothersbaugh's Joyeux Mutato cd? I think it may be the greatest Christmas record of all time. The Ren and Stimpy one might be my second favorite.
Any other good Christmas albums out there that donm't make you cringe? I have not heard the Reverend Horton Heat one yet.

Coil 'Christmas is now drawing near'
'A Very Scary Solstice' by the H.P.Lovecraft Historical Society has it's moments, though it's a total cheesefest. Nonetheless, 'Rudolf the Red-Brained Mi-go' is certainly a holiday classic.

local Minneapolis house band at Lee's Liquor Lounge, Trailer Trash has a CD from few years ago 'Hell, it's Xmas' great version of Merle Haggard's 'If we make it through December'
and a more promoted production this year

hard to touch James Brown Christmas 'Santa Claus go straight to the ghetto' and one of my personal favorites 'Let's make Christmas mean something this year'
or the classic Phil Spector particularly Darlene Love's "Christmas, Baby Please Come Home' sends shivers up my spine everytime I hear it

Now I have them on the iPod. I was pleasantly surprised just how tastefully arranged they were.
I understand Hoey has now re-issued the three CDs as a two-CD set.
I like the Brian Setzer Orchestra rockabilly/big band Christmas album. I hear he's issued a second one, gotta check that out.
One I want to find on CD is Jon Anderson's Three Ships, with Elliot Easton of The Cars on guitar. That and The Roches' We Three Kings

XFM put out a neat compo a couple of years ago, highlights included Grandaddys 'Alan Parsons in a Winter Wonderland', Dandy Warhols 'Little Drummer Boy' and Giant Sands 'Thank You Dreaded Black Ice, Thank You'.
And everyone should track down a copy of Cocteau Twins 'Frosty the Snowman'. Ethereally festive.

I'm an Atheist, but I love Christmas music...dunno why, probably my love of old folk music.
Kitka's Wintersongs album is fantastic. Amazing Balkan/Eastern European vocal stuff a lot like Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares. Even has some great pre-Christian pagan stuff from Latvia sung in an extict language, can't beat that.
Stefan Dragostinov's Key to the Mystery/Christmas Star album is another great seasonal Bulgarian folk CD, (Thanks, tuzemec!) some real great stuff to be found there.
I've also been looking for a good Medieval-European/Renaissance based CD, any recommendations?
That said, donkey tugger's classic rendition of Silent Night, King Diamond's "No Presents for Christmas", and Showcase Showdown's "Merry Christmas, I f**ked Your Snowman" are also required listening this time of year
