EnergyXT is the only piece of audio software I've ever purchased aside from Jeskola XS-1 and it's been the best software purchase I've ever made. It's replaced my Buzz, Psycle and other miscellaneous programs and now it's even moving to my favorite OS.

Thanks Jorgen.

do you not have a spear PCI slot in the linux box?

if you have you could probly fix that problem for less then £3 (if your a bargin hunter)

also there are usb to ethernet devices out there aswell

Well, I do have a spare PCI slot and a spare ethernet card, but I also have a PCI soundcard and it HAS to be far away from other cards (especially the graphics card), otherwise there is terrible sound interference. :(

When I used to have the soundcard next to the Radeon, you could play different tunes by moving different windows about on the desktop. :hihi:

I think both versions will use the same codebase, so code will be written once for both, just compiled twice.

xt2 early next year , woow .. hope one of the best things eXT got , be so "light" and the possibility to load other ( a lot) XT´s inside the main one so fast , still be a reality in v2 ... i can´t remember other host(with a sequencer) that do this right now..

bwah... I have no drivers for my sound card because ESI won't release the Maya specs... I'll have to stick my Soundblaster® Live!® back in for sound

I'm surprised as it picked out mine on install, internal Gforce2 under DeMuDi. What is the onboard chipset? as it could just be the distro of linux you are using.

Linux DeMuDi is fairly current (july 2005), has the latest drivers and software and it is easy to configure for vst suport as well.

I'm enjoying my Linux setup for the moment. Blender works much more smoothly on Linux than on Windows for example.

However, I'm yet to reproduce the rich multi-media experience I have been enjoying on Windows - streaming media from the web mainly. I've got the flash player installed so that's OK. However, I'm not terribly impressed with the streaming video capabilities in particular. Eventually I'll get my head around it I suppose and I have a work around for RealPlayer playback (Linux RealPlayer doesn't seem to integrate with the web browser like it does in Windows).

I'm hoping to build a Linux platform for 3D modelling, graphics and video editing etc..., it would be nice to have EnergyXT on there as well for basic composition work. I think the Windows machine will be the serious music platform for me at this stage though.

Pity - in alot of ways I wouldn't mind ditching Windows altogether. ;)

A few links that may be helpful to you brave souls willing to explore the wrold of Linux audio:

Dave Phillips maintains Sound & MIDI Software For Linux, the definitive overview of available music/audio software.

Linux Journal has lots of interesting articles in their Audio/Video topic archive, including several inspiring articles by Dave Phillips.

The stock Linux kernel is built for general use, so it's often reccomended that you build a custom one using the ck patchset which allows for much lower latency. It can be an intimidating proccess if you're not familiar with compiling software, but once you get your head around the basics it's actually pretty straighforward. There's a good wiki page that gives a walk through of the the procedure -- it's written for Debian based distros, but the basic routine is quite generalized.

Also, while I have no intention of bashing anyone's distribution of choice, I would really reccomend looking for one that uses an up to date hardware auto-detection system. Ubuntu is the big one these days, but lots of others are availbe (MEPIS, PCLinuxOS and Knoppix to name a few).

Anyway, hope that's useful for some of you. :)
