I installed the demo for both Project5 and Sonar not long ago, after that I noticed that all my VST effect were showing up in Vegas5 plugins list(version 5 of Vegas doesn't support VST's, only DX). I then decided that those programs weren't for me and uninstalled the both of them, but VST effect were still showing up in the plug in list in Vegas!?!
And I just now tried to load a VST effect on an audio track in Vegas, and it works?!?
Is there ghosts in the machine or what? Not complaining, but this is really weird.

The reason why they showed up in the first place is because both Sonar and Project5 use the Cakewalk VST wrapper, which registered them as DX effects.
They're still registered that way, but I'm surprised that they don't need the wrapper to run...

Make sense ew, but it doesn't explain why they still work, or at least why they load as I haven't tried any processing with them yet, just loaded in the chain and looked at the gui. Maybe something went wrong with Cakewalk uninstal, or my computer is haunted. Too bad it's on my test machine and not on my DAW though, could have used all those nice plugins...

I think your VSTs is still registered as DX plugins. The gui and all of its parameters you saw maybe is just some kind of 'dummy' parameters. I'm sure it won't work if you remove the VST DLLs too, because VST wrapper basically is a controller. It will show up, but will not working. But if it's still working, maybe you're right.. your machine is haunted
I think you should reset the VST wrapper before uninstalling Sonar/Project5. That way, it will remove all registry entries it made before. I don't exactly remember how to reset or remove its entries because I stopped using cakewalk VST wrapper a few months ago and using DirectiXer instead.
