It's back up!
No sleep for me tonight.
I hope it works this time.
Maybe my reverb quest will come to an end.

Uh, oh.
Kernel driver.
:bang:
Never mind.

Whats a kernel driver?

Post

PACE - google for it. In short don't use it 'cos it can screw up your system.

Why oh why oh why oh why do software companies KEEP PACE ALIVE!???

Kind regards

I thought there was now an option for PACE or chanllenge response?

Post

no - the other option is Ilok - which YOU pay for an Ilok to protect THEIR plugin.

GREAT business sense ;)

As an alternative, I find the plate algorhithm in PSP's EasyVerb to be really quite good... And you get a few other good algorithms included!

I guess if you're a control freak, the lack of controls in EasyVerb might put you off though.

The EMT Plate impulses in Echochamber.ch for SIR, etc. are simply fantastic. Not much tweakability, obviously, but hey its free.

It still saddens me I can't use the Princeton plugins. I steer clear of anything PACE so aciduously that I will go to the extent of buying a UAD card solely for a plate reverb (admittedly there are plenty of other top quality plugins to make the purchase worthwhile, so it's a gain for me), but my main need is a good plate reverb such as the EMT plate emulation. I would be perfectly happy with the Princeton. I have the money available no problem. Yet I prefer to spend 3 times the amount to get a UAD card primarily for their plate reverb. I'm not just whining about PACE without putting my wallet where my mouth is - I am actually going to buy the UAD. For that price, I could have bought both the room reverb and the plate reverb, and probably would have done. I doubt I'm the only one either.... :?

What is especially maddening is the fact that the kernel level applies only to the Plate.

Actually, I should bite my tongue lest they require the kernel level drive for future updates of Stereo Room.

Am I the only Stereo Room user that feels, well, cheated? Was I that naive to expect the same level of copy protection - not something even more intrusive?

More the pity. I'm out.

They had initially changed the copy protection on Stereo Room as well, but I suspect many existing customers voiced concern (myself included).

Pity about the Plate.

Thanks, advaya. I forgot about the easyverb. I'll check it out. What would really make my day, is if Silverspike would add a plate algorithm in R2. I use the R2 as my main verb but it doesn't have a plate.

Wow,just tested the demo,it's really good,I love this one as the roomverb. It sounds different ,but great!

It seems like the more people complained and cautioned them about PACE, the more they just went in the opposite direction and made it even more extreme.

It's mysterious to me why compaines aren't taking the complaints about PACE seriously. One of those things that may just take several more years to sink in.

I'm convinced PACE makes shoddy products, which includes their C/R protection program. It just freaked out on me and generated a new challenge response for my Princeton room reverb on the same machine with no OS reinstall and no hardware changes, other than disabling a network card temporarily.

I'm sorry, but that kind of fault lies with software developers, and customers certainly have every right to complain bitterly when they are barred for no reason from using a product they've already paid in full for. A totally acceptable grounds for bitter complaints to the developers, IMO.

I totally agree here guys, lucky I didn't buy any of their products. What do you folks think of ArtsAcoustic or Kjaerhus Classic Reverb for plate sounds ? I've found ArtsAcoustic more a natural verb, but Classic Reverb seems to do a plate verb to my ears, it sounds awesome

Cheers
