Case is simple. It sounds like hundreds of exactly similar sounding songs that came out during those years. Not making it better, but it is not a unique song in any way. When you listen to it, it just brings back some memories of those times, and they weren´t bad in my case. The more you listen to it, the worse it gets, so play it once, every three years or so, and all will be well. Barbie Girl on the other hand brings out the axeman in you rather immediately.

As with "best evar" threads, I don't think there can possibly be one "worst evar" song. There's room enough for hideousness galore.

None of those you mention were compelling enough for me to buy their albums. Cranberries never appealed to me either. Alanis...her voice is ok but too manic in some ways. Not what I´d call worst by any standard personally. As said, it is virtually impossible to conclude what is "worst", other than see what the majority feels is gutwrenchingly horrid.

I mean, listen to Alan Vega...either you find it great or cool, or as most people would perhaps - reach for the gun.

clueless, during the big "New Country" thing, I was working as a route technician for an amusement company -- I fixed jukeboxes and other coin-operated equipment. I also took requests for new records. Don't want to tell you how many Boot Scoot and Achy Breaky 45s I had to deliver. (And it doesn't matter what record you take out to make room for it, it was always someone's favorite, and they sure let you know next time you show up.)

Next to those, the most-requested song was "Mississippi Squirrel Revival" by Ray Stevens.

Meffy. If get back to that biz, put on Alan Vega with a label of any popular requested artist and see what happens. On the other hand, do not do that. It would surely put you out of business.

The worst song ever was posted on MP3.com a few years ago. It was so bad and so bland that no one ever listened to more than two bars and no living soul, even the author, can remember its name.
