Agreed - All this points to a better model of musician/developer relations where the developer, instead of trying to impose draconian control over the computers of musicians, offers good support, good products and creates a rapport of respect and community.

I am very happy Arts Acoustic has taken this approach, as do many of the developers on KVR. That is why they receive my money.

Hopefully the current Sony debacle (the spyware they installed on audio CD's that has made PC's vulnerable to attacks) is a wakeup to the software vendors. Any efforts to prevent piracy are in vain, and have the spillover effect of STUFFING your chances with your potential honest clients. Boycott the vendors who still don't get this, and support those who do. Thieves will do what thieves do - it doesn't matter because they never would have bought the product anyway. But calling all your potential customers thieves, and treating them as such, is no way to gain their custom. And beware of Sony!

Wtf? I was going to buy this, but not any more. Forget it.

Poor strategy and a poor communications plan.

I like the Princeton reverbs - alot. But as I mentioned in another topic, I am seriously going to buy a UAD card. Although there are the other dynamics plugins that I will get (so there a plenty of other reasons to get one) my main reason for buying the UAD is the EMT plate. I want to be able to use good quality plate reverbs freely without the restrictions of convolution - I'll use the other plugins, but it really is only the EMT plate that is finally making me buy one (before the New Year too :hyper: ). I'm prepared to spend 3 times the amount for probably equivalent quality. I could have bought both the room reverb and the plate reverb for less than the UAD - but that copy protection has stopped me. Really, the copy protection is the only thing that stayed my hand with Princeton - I'd buy them like a shot if they were registration codes, or even on a Syncrosoft dongle. So they lose custom for both plugins and their competitors gain, because of copy protection.

Their loss, but for some reason they don't see it that way. Can't understand why myself... :?

Not to take anything away from Princeton, I just want to say that the UAD Plate is priceless, I use it on almost everything.

Well, all of you should e-mail Princeton to tell them that you wouldn't consider buying Plate with PACE on it. I've done so.

Post

Already done it - they seem to have decided PACE is the way to go. Silly boys.

Post

You would think that with all the stink that was raised using the Pace C/R, that doing a Kernel driver wouldn't be the best decision.

Speaking of PACE C/R, my Princeton 2016 room reverb randomly decided to generate a new challenge code this weekend :x . I was a little distressed to try opening it and have that PACE dialog fly in my face and tell me I haven't registered it. I've had it for several months and this is the first problem.

Only thing I can think is that some messing around with XP settings and the logon configuration for the machine that I did on Satruday triggered this. No hardware was changed.
