building home studio. mainly using fls for everything. my question is what would be a good software to compliment fls? I have been researching cubase sl3,sonar5studio ed, etc. I mainly plan on using fls for everything but I want a better audio recording program that works well with fls via rewire? no pro tools. any help? currently have cubase le but have not tried it yet.

You're gonna get Ext thrown at you here (no idea what it is though)

It doesnt rewire, but I'd say Adobe Audition is always worth investing in. I would be lost without it.

1.5 has rewire chase, and it works quite nicely with fl...not to mention how nice AA works as fl's default editor...;)

I have it loaded as FL's default editor, but have got 1.0 (came with my bro's sound card - he got it for games so gave me the software disc)

adobe will record audio? how about sound forge 8. I saw it is not rewire capable, how important is this as far as ease of use "streamlining the process"
when they ask who sent you tell them "I AM" sent you.

The Chase and thinspectit live pretty close to each other ;)

What about Orion Platinum?

The way the users of Oriion&FLS 'complement' :hihi: each others choice of software, I'd have thought this would be a given..............

Adobe Audition is fantastic for audio recording - very good quality, and can handle up to 128 audio tracks in Multitrack View, including recording multiple channels simultaneously if you have the appropriate hardware.

There is a demo without restrictions for 30 days here:

http://www.adobe.com/products/audition/main.html

Worth checking out as it may be exactly what you are after

You should demo "Adobe Audition' for sure. It has a good wave editor. But It is limited in features when using with other programs.(correct me AA users if I am wrong). Here I am talking about v1.5.
-Very Limited MIDI features(only opens midi 0 type, all in single track)
-No 'Snap to Grid' function or Show Grid in 'multitrack view' which is very essential for loop users
-No Non-destructive Wave editor which changes your sounds permanently
-Pain in using realtime effects.
-No VSTi support
Limited VST effect support(many vsts dont show up)
-I have not even good experience using rewire with FLS.

These are a few which puts me off.
If these Points dont bother you , you can buy it
Tools are tools, they don't produce anything...

Isn't that an OEM license? Only for use with the bundled sound card... ?
If so, you might as well download a warezed 1.5 :?

I think that a few bits do need correcting - or at least clarifying - , yes
-Very Limited MIDI features(only opens midi 0 type, all in single track)
Audition is not a MIDI sequencer, full stop. It is an audio programme. You can record and mix up to 128 audio tracks, including both destructive editing and real time effects processing, detailed analysis, noise reduction and spectrum editing tools, mastering processes, batch processing, sample rate alterations with top-end dithering, right through to CD burning. Also it does surround sound and video thumbnail/music to picture.

But it is not a MIDI sequencer.
-No 'Snap to Grid' function or Show Grid in 'multitrack view' which is very essential for loop users
Totally wrong there. Audition has ACID style looping tools including a wide range of snapping options. The timestretch is top rate (I also own/use Ableton Live and Sonar 5 PE, and the timestretch in Audition is easily as good as either of theirs).
-No Non-destructive Wave editor which changes your sounds permanently
Not sure what you mean because that comment contradicts itself... destructive editing is permanent, non-destructive editing can be undone. Audition allows for both.
-Pain in using realtime effects.
Not at all. Real time effects couldn't be simpler, and they work just fine.
-No VSTi support
See above. Audition is an audio programme.

FL is a great programme for MIDI sequencing, but perhaps not so good for audio based work, which is why Audition is a good partner for FL.
Limited VST effect support(many vsts dont show up)
That's a fair point. The internal VST wrapper is indeed a bot dodgy. Hopefully the next update will address this.

Personally I use my VST effects within Audition as DX effects via the Cakewalk wrapper, which is better.
-I have not even good experience using rewire with FLS.
Can't comment specifically, but rewire in Audition certainly works well, and there seem to be a lot of people who use the two programmes together successfully.
These are a few which puts me off.

I suggest that maybe you have another look armed with this new knowledge

Cheers.

I agree with headquest across the board...sure AA has some limitations, but it also has some things that Sonar 5 doesn't as well. Though I will admit I like Sonar better for muti-tracking now and AA is more of just an editor.

However as a team I can't think of a better combo then FL/AA for the money. They compliment each other very nicely...:)
