The only other mastering vst I have used is Final mix so my knowlage in this area is limited.
Just a few plus's,and minus's compared to Final mix,Ozone, and Tracks would be great.
Seems like a nice effet though.

Well it's really more of an effect than a mastering plugin. It's good at what it does: turbo charging mixes with several cool excessive compressors and enhancers.

Oh no, let's not get started about FinalMix...

BTW, I just mastered a bunch of stuff with FinalMix and it sounded awesome. Just like Cher from 1993.

There was a battle waged one day on our beloved KVR and FinalMix was the unfortunate center of the melee. There was an argument put forward that the phase distortion produced between the bands made multi band comps inherently bad, and some contrary arguments were also put forward. I'm not sure if anything was ever resolved, but we all pretty much get along okay now. :D

BTW, UAD just came out with a multi band comp... :hihi:

But, if I remember, it wasn't so much anti-Final Mix, rather anti-Multiband compressors in gerneral.

i haven't had luck with stardust nor final mix. i just eq, phase shift, etc on each track and then throw a .........c3 multiband compressor on the whole thing

Ooooooh...is it actually released now? My back pay comes in hopefully day after tomoorow - which means I can finally buy my UAD FlexiPak. And that multiband will be one of the 3 plugins I get with it, methinks.

And as for Stardust...I'd agree with the FX thing rather than as a finaliser. TBH, I wouldn't even use it over a mix (although it seems to be designed for that purpose). Not enough control over each band for me, and I wasn't entirely convinced that it had enough character to be distinctive, or enough clarity to be precision. I'd happily use it on a subgroup though (I don't, but if I had no other choice, I could think of worse plugins).

Still...it's free, and it does a half way decent job of squishing things without butchering them too much. I personally prefer the sound of one good wideband compressor than a dodgy multiband. (But I prefer a good multiband.

Yeah that was my stance in that war anyway.

Me too, but I've never heard a *good* multiband in my life. Well, soniformer is awesome but I don't associate it it multibands at all (ie. it's not shit).

I've played around with c3 a bit too, not bad.
did it come up in the Finalmix battle?

I used to use Stardust quite a lot, but I mostly find myself making use of its HF exciter now, if anything. The multiband comp nicely flattens the spectrum, which can be useful as a quick way of making a bad mix sound better, but once you start using Soniformer... That said, Stardust is incredible for a freebie.
