I bought one this summer in Paris (Centre Pompidou)... it's a wonderful instrument, and now I can finally play a reed instrument
. I don't remember seeing much about it at kvr... (btw it's not a VST!, it's a bamboo flute with a saxophone reed).

I've been giving the Xaphoon props on a few music forums including here - it's a great instrument. Played right, it can sound a lot like a duduk, or some crazy old folk clarinet. Maybe someday there can be more threads like this as more plugins are replaced with real instruments
While we're bigging-up less well-known brands here, I'll just say 'Tony Dixon flutes'.

I've got one from Paris too (also Centre Pompidou). I've got the plastic one. Never managed to play it well though.

I think I should've bought the plastic version... it's cheaper and probably lasts longer...
... I'll post a tune once I stop playing long enough to push the record button first

And remember kids, if you're so cheap you can't afford a xaphoon, there's always this...

this is crazy...
i just had the same thoughts...
actually i was looking for a bamboo-flute
for many years...
since i used to have one when i was 16.
just a few days ago i *finally* found one,
a real big one, with nice deep sounds..
and i am very happy
but,
i have to admit this thing is even cooler,
i just read about that instrument
last week..while using google for wind-instruments.
and i am really into "real" non-vst instruments,
lately..
so, yes i *have* to try to built this plastic-thing,
can`t wait... to do so
maybe i pump this thing,
by painting it gold or silver with water resistant car-color???
THX for this cool stuff,
since i am into this right now.
..and damn, this mp3 sounds sooo real.. unbelieveable!
