How does Stardust compare to other mastering plugs.

Thanks!
ok... it was about multi-band processors.
Hmmm....
Multiband compressors are an extremely powerful tool.
Their uses are mainly as a final processor in a transmission system and were adopted by the recording industry in the late 70s.
The analog versions were subject to massive phase-shifts about the xover regions, but most of the hardware/digital devices I currently apply don't have this issue.
It's the only way I know of to really contain a bass-heavy tune without having the kick/bass destroy everything else.
I would guess anything can become useless if applied wrong.
I've used the c3 a bit and it's my choice esp. on vocal mixes/fixes.
It can quite easily abuse a signal, providing any number of useful colorations.
I don't have much experience with the other 'free' MBCs yet. But it's been my experience that you can find a use for just about any audio processor.
Interesting thread...

got too many things going on nowadays. I don't think I'll be doing it, sorry. Pretty soon there will be some of my music NOT using finalmix on a commercial website. These are demos of [snip].
But that won't work in an A/B comparison.
*sigh* I thought the final mix issue was dead and buried already.

I remember when I mastered my record experimenting with Stardust, and the reason I quit using it was that my ears could'nt figure out exactly what the plug was doing to my audio. I could hear it doing something but it was'nt really definite. The controls said that a knob was supposed to do this or that but that's not what I heard it do. I used BuzzMaxi and IQ4 a lot and I think I really backed off using my other plugs. I EQ-ed more than anything else. I really wanted to like the Sonitus compressor but it induced hiss. The Sonitus EQ was gold, though, the reverb too.
