This month's Future Music (U.S. edition) mentions that AT2 will be released during the first quarter of 2006, so the most optimistic date seems to be Janaury (probably by NAMM?)

Good lord....January as a best case scenario?!

I went for the AmpliTube deal of buying v1 and getting the free upgrade (for which I am genuinely grateful).

Still...

Had I simply used v1 without trying the 30 day demo of Guitar Rig 2 I'd be less...uneasy. IMHO, GR2 is vastly superior to AmpliTibe v1. It's not even remotely close. Sorry to say that now I can't imagine using AmpliTube very much until v2 comes out.

As someone who is involved in marketing I must say that IK's marketing strategy and communications plan simply mystifies me.

Hurry up January :?

The marketing strategy is working exactly as planned. You bought Amplitube instead of Guitar Rig.

IK/SR: 1; NI: 0.

If they waited until now to announce it, or until January, or until NAMM, or until it's ready to be released, you would have already bought Guitar Rig 2.

My new policy on software is to buy it for what it does NOW, not for what it will do in the next release.

Releases get delayed, plans change, priorities shift.

On the flip side, if you bought Guitar Rig 2, then AT2 was announced later, you'd probably kick yourself and complain, "Man, if I'd only known this was coming, I would have waited..." :P

Maybe yes, maybe no.

There's no way to know how many people tired of waiting, or went with GR as it is a known commodity now.

Meh, GR2 is nothing. Waves' GTR is the one to beat. The demo sounds *really* nice. Check out this thread.

Oh, and mind you, I've already bought Amplitube 1 (with the free 2 upgrade), so I'm really pulling for IK on this one.

No thanks. Not the way Waves have treated their customers.

Guys, trust me, it is not a "marketing strategy". AT2 was planned to be out much sooner but there were a few unexpected hold ups. I think you will understand when it is out what I am talking about. In retrospect the announcement and advertising campaign would have been later but you know hindsight is 20/20. SR is working on a few products with IK that we're not even going to announce until it is within a much shorter time from announcement to release. That is ideally what we are all trying to do but that is not always the easiest thing to predict.

Meanwhile, the offer of "buy AT1 and get AT2 free" is a nice way to give anyone who wants AmpliTube 1 a good excuse to just get it now and not feel they have to wait for AmpliTube 2. A sort of have your cake and eat it too kind of thing. Plus you really get a good deal having two fx plug-ins for the price of less than AT2 will actually be!

As for NI and Waves plug-ins, I think those two companies have great stuff. But, when it comes to amp modeling, IK has a headstart on both of them since they've been doing it longer. And that's not to mention the unique "custom amp shop" capabilities from modeling components of the amps which I think is brilliant. If you combine that with the sound of new modeling techniques like DSM and accurate emulations of vintage stomp boxes plus a really great design that is easy to use you get something special and unique that you don't get in anything else.

Does that mean GR2 and the Waves GTR is bad? I don't think anything IK, NI or Waves makes is bad. I am sure each has something special about it too but since not everyone can buy all of them (which is one option of course... still all together less than the price of one Vox AC30) I know that if I had to pick just one I know what I would choose. But, each person's tastes and needs are different.

Anyway, a lot of people will be playing it in January one way or another (either at the trade show or in their own homes). Let's see! The waiting won't be forever. Also, I hear the demo riffs are coming very soon. I might be able to do some too perhaps.

GR2 is nothing?
I agree

GTR is the one to beat?
Best emulation at the moment but it's not as great as it seems from the demos (yes I paid $40 for the dongle just to demo it), best crunch sound though, I will be surprised if AT2 will surpass it.
So where is AT2? Let's hear it. This long wait sucks.

Well I totaly feel the opposite, it is an amazing thing, I have been creating my own presets and the sound I am getting is fantastic, mind you I am going through a TLA Valve pre first then into a metric halo, but still, I am very excited about the sounds I am getting out of this thing, It is way better than either my Boss GT8 or My pod, editing is a great experience, very easy to use, I am pondering if I Dare use it for Live use, I just can't live with the GT8 after using this,
So Nothing????? I don't think so.

I am sure Amplitube is going to be good, how good I have no idea, I am sure I will use it as well as GR2 and I am happy to have the choice, I don't like the Dongle tho, it rules out live use for me, I just couldn't live with the extra stress of it.

Waves, I won't ever buy from them, they are way over rated in my opinion, and way over priced, and just plain unreliable.

Just to be clear: I'm not anti IK. In fact, I am very grateful for the excellent price.

I'm just commenting on how this clearly is a (lamentable) pattern with them.

It is what it is.

There is one thing, on the face of it, that GR2 seems to have all over AmpliTube 2: the variety of mics and (seemingly) more variety in positioning.

GR2 has nine microphones each with four to five mic positions. I've used most of the mics they model (yes, even the lollipop) and they are actually pretty good. AmpliTube has "only" 6 (though none of them have ribbon sims) ;)

I spect in the end we all win with apples and oranges (if rather $$ fruit) ;)
