I recently got two albums by a band called Oceansize - brilliant stuff! Like, modern prog-rock, sounds like Oasis with intelligence

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

We played with Psyche the other week and they were really good. If you like Depeche Mode and/or VNV Nation they are definitely worth checking out.

Trentemöller - ok, it's a guy, not a band, but just amazing in that genre...
Datach'i
Jazzanova - amazing stuff, went straight into my "references for good mixing" folder
Koop - yeah I'm getting certain things years later...
Mandalay - same thing as with Koop
Jaga Jazzist
Xploding Plastix
Telefon Tel Aviv - thanks to that special someone here on KVR for introducing me to it
Blamstrain - a friend of mine, incredibly good ambient album coming out soon
Mylo - the pop remix crap that gets MTV play represents his output really badly
Ursula 1000 - in certain ways similar to what our beloved Kingston has done
Recently spans several months or close to a year in my case though

Off the top of my head: Todd. I saw them supporting Part Chimp, very heavy, very noisy, and totally mad.

Are you sure? Rotersand have nice artwork but I thought they were a little like a dozen or three other, better known bands. And The Killers? Wow!

Kaiser Chiefs and Editors.
Hardly discoveries I'll admit but I hadn't heard any of their stuff until the tape player (!) broke down in my car and I started listening to XFM. What's most striking is that here are 2 bands who have really cracked how to get old-style synths into a guitar band. Marvellous.
