I agree, but how would you explain this?:
VW bus = Grateful Dead
Caddy Escalade = 50cent
'69 TransAM = ________

Because I don't understand (insert style name), and I HATE things I don't understand.
Come to think of it, this one has a guilty assumption at it's heart. Those who don't like what I do obviously don't get it, because if they were smart enough to get it they'd like it.

It leaves no room for getting it and not liking it, and therefore makes the classic mistake of assuming that one's own music taste is objective (like I did a page earlier on this thread). :)

I dont get why people feel the need to point out that they have a very eclectic taste in music (whether they do or not - though most who say they do list what they listen to "from [genre 1] to [Genre 2]", when the 2 said musical genres arent much different from eachother). Personally, I will admit that i infact have a very narrow taste in music. So what? If you were as open minded as you're trying to make people think you are by saying so, you would also have an equally wide-banded taste in fashion, visual art, cars, favorite animals, movies, the list goes on...

If narrowmindedness (err sorry, did you say narrow taste) is working for you.. then more power to ya..
No hard feelings, VitaminD, but um...you condensending prat

'oh so you listen to a lot of DNB, so you must really love mercedes benz, green shirts, and jello(tm) brand chocolate pudding.' ???

a taste for a broad range in music can help you understand others if only slightly.. and open your ideas to other ways of thinking.. loving a mass marketed chocolate dessert probably wont.. ?
My point was that narrow-taste is not, in ANY WAY narrow-mindedness.

Like I've said twice in this thread, I have a narrow taste in music. I have absolutely nothing against other kinds of music that dont fit this narrow band, and also nothing against people who listen to genres outside my relatively narrow band.

It's just that some people sport the music they listen to for the same reason they sport the clothes they wear. Listening to non-favorite genres of music that you would other-wise not like in order to appear open-minded is JUST as fake as listening to non-favorite music to try to appear cool. These two are the same concept, just that they are trying to send 2 different images to other people, ya dig?

Actually, it has no such assumption.

It does not assume that everyone who doesn't like genre x doesn't understand it.

It is simply there for the people (and I am sure you must acknowledge that they do exist here and there) who do hate music because they don't understand it.
