Anyone tried it???

Im SOOOOooooo tempted - anythings gotta be better than the Audigy Laptop card Im using @ the mo and if it has 1/2 the features of my FlextoneIII amp well then....

Opinions / comments???

Very tempting, esp. in the features per dollar dept. And those VU meters are so cute :) (UX2 only, I'd go for the UX2 instead of the cheaper UX1 cause I want the digital i/o for reamping) Haven't tried one yet though.

I have been using it for weeks now, very, very happy with it. I have stopped using my emu1212m for tracking, I only use it for mixdown now, the converters are that good. Now that custom tone is back online, there isn't enough hours in the day to check out all the free tones that you can download. For the price, you can beat it, plus you are right, the meters look badass  The preamp models alone (the Neve/api) are worth it. Mic your amp up with a 57 and run it through the api and the la2a models and man, talk about rich, rippin tone...

Post

hmmm, I have been pretty curious about it, I may put it on my christmas list, how is it with CPU usage? latency?

Post

Gotta be the UX2 here too - I would need the inputs and to be honest Im taken by the meters also!!!

Thanks for the info VMan88... a question if I may please? When you say you can D/L extra tones - what exactly are they? I was considering spending the extra $99 and getting the 3 packs thus having 'Everything' from the start???
Oh and is the copy of Live tied to the hardware - I have Live5 and would like to give the lite version to a friend who has just started and has nothing?

Thanks for the opinions guys, Im sold!!!

Well, there are the tone packs, which are the extra amp models and fx you can download, you have to pay for those. Presets from customtone.com are free, and they have user presets as well as artist presets and factory presets available, every sound you can think of and more. I have been sifting through them for days...as for latency, I am running at 5ms, no problem. And no, you don't need to use Live with the hardware, it is a seperate entity. I didn't install it, as I use Cubase. Cpu usage, it runs about 10-15% on a heavy patch. It's the perfect gift to yourself for Christmas, I can't stop playing with the damn thing, lol

Post

Right - thats me... Im getting 2!!!

 Thanks for the firsthand info VMan88!!!

Do the emulations on that thing run on the box itself, or on the PC like the GuitarPort?

The Toneport has no internal DSP. It runs off of your native CPU. You can read my mini-review, of the UX2 model, that I purchased, about a month ago:

The GuitarPort works the same way, and I dont really think its much of a problem. If you dont run the effects its just a 'normal' soundcard, so there's no processor overhead. On my laptop, I just record direct to Project5 with the effects running, then that's it they can go back off again.

I was kinda shocked at the price - I had assumed I could bring it to a gig with a PSU and plug it into the PA...

... Its still on the list but just the one now :hihi:

Thanks again folks,
Dave
