You can make some pretty good music with two rocks. Possibly your voice, if you don't croak like I do.

That's like asking, "is my arse powerful enough to bring tears to your eyes"? The answer is the same. It depends who is in control of the output. If the indians or vegetarians are in control then my arse will be mighty powerful indeed. And will produce some impressive sounds. However in the hands of a bland boring chef then the output may be not very stunning at all.

And EnergyXT? On that price is almost a freebie.

With SFZ and www.sf2midi.com anyone who knows what they're doing can make good sounding orchestral, rock, etc. music. Most of the time you'll find that you can get almost the same sound whether you're using samples from today or samples from 1992... it just takes more work to get a better sound out of the older samples.

Ildon, exactly. Anyway, orchestral music made with big sample libraries and orchestral music made with soundfonds is just a computer music that trying to be orchestral (IMO).

Audacity captures the same bits coming in that ProTools does.

No. Wot you need is this $25,000.00 'Super Framulating Music Song Generator' I'm selling. It has a 'good music' button on it. The 'free stuff' obviously isn't meant for 'real' musicians, of course.kangul wrote:

Hmm.....I've heard some pretty believable drumkits as soundfonts, but guitars, brass and strings don't come near some of the mid/high end sample libraries. Not from what I've heard anyway. I mean, how would the developers sell their $500-1000+ libraries otherwise.kangul wrote:Hey, Armadillo, what do you think about that free soundfonts available almost everywhere? Yeah, some of them is a crap, but all the other is brilliant and absolutely free!
Prove me wrong and show me some jaw dropping sound fonts...

Armadillo, I'm sorry, I don't know what exactly do you need and what the sound do you like
Just use google. You'll be amazed, I'm sure.
Alxndr, as I said before, my answer is 'yes' too... So search for the people who answered 'no' to sell your fantastic music machine

I don't think anyone would go to the trouble to prove you wrong, since you're so obviously wrong. Various hiphip, sound-scapers, metal heads and maybe most other genre which use any sort of electronic generators use soundfonts that they either make themselves or have produced.Armadillo wrote:Hmm.....I've heard some pretty believable drumkits as soundfonts, but guitars, brass and strings don't come near some of the mid/high end sample libraries. There are LOADS of VSTi often advertised in here that use soundfonts as their core sound generators.
AND it's easy to mix a decent soundfont into the background mix of a track and it would be VERY difficult to tell apart from a live-recorded sound. If you doubt that then you need to earnestly try it.
Cheers,
Alex
