Why so? Doesn't GNOME use Enlightenment any more? I was referring to the default look.

I'm also touring the linux audio world atm but I've run into a bit of a roadblock. The bloody steinberg site just gives me the 404 middle finger when I try to get the VST SDK. If anybody out there can e-mail it to me just send me a PM.

glurgle and others:
The link on my site works but here you go anyway.
http://www.steinberg.de/DocSupportDispl ... 0SDK_1.htm
@ bones:
You install wine and then when you install/run a windows app you do it through wine.
eg: wine "Kristal.exe". That invokes wine and calls the win app.
Unfortunatley I can't get the new version 0.9 working with dssi-vst. The old version works fine though.

Does that mean you need to install all your Windoze app's in the same directory as WINE or will it find them wherever they are?

Just curious-did you know that the Studio To Go! commercial Debian distro uses your NovaKill FEARkILLER as an example of a vsti that can be used with Wine and RoseGarden?BONES wrote:Does that mean you need to install all your Windoze app's in the same directory as WINE or will it find them wherever they are?

@odo,
nice news!
odo, you need to try this
http://lmms.sourceforge.net/
and tell me how it is
they just released a RC on dec-15th
LMMS aims to be a free alternative to popular (but commercial and closed-source) programs like FruityLoops.
this is also a nice toy linux+win32:
http://www.hydrogen-music.org/
one day, i need to try linux(for audio) as well!
but i think, i wait for 2006 to do that.
it is really time, someone starts working on a fork
of knoppix .. "knoppix for audio"
since they already did a "knoppix for games"
"wine" .. must be similar to "qemu" for pc,
of course it`s not the same thing,
but it is similar.
i am using qemu, to run ReactOS and DamnSmallLinux,
on Win-OS. ReactOS also uses "some wine" itself.

Is it just me or does LMMS borrow heavily in places from FL for some of its graphical look?
Yep, they asked permission and sent me a copy without me asking them to.Improv wrote:Just curious-did you know that the Studio To Go! commercial Debian distro uses your NovaKill FEARkILLER as an example of a vsti that can be used with Wine and RoseGarden?

I think it was trying to be a clone of FL with a few improvements ...BONES wrote:Is it just me or does LMMS borrow heavily in places from FL for some of its graphical look?

WindowMaker is what I used before Xfce4, which I used before Ion, and I still use at school where they don't have Ion installed and I can't figure out how to get it to install to my home directory (I know, --prefix=~ but it refuses to run)BONES wrote:Does that mean you need to install all your Windoze app's in the same directory as WINE or will it find them wherever they are?I use WindowMakerarke wrote:Real men use Ion anyway

By the way, Xfce4 is miles better than Xfce3 ... seems like most people still judge it by the older versions

No, it's not just you.BONES wrote:Is it just me or does LMMS borrow heavily in places from FL for some of its graphical look?
It's a bit too cheeky for my taste, at least the Hydrogen crew can claim they were merely... inspired.
Have you tried the full path (if you have proper permissions)?arke wrote:WindowMaker is what I used before Xfce4, which I used before Ion, and I still use at school where they don't have Ion installed and I can't figure out how to get it to install to my home directory (I know, --prefix=~ but it refuses to run)

Trouble with that is Linux changes fast and a lot of the apps on the disk are now out of date. It does have an improved Rosegarden though but it is still a distro that is bloated and despite what it says, it is not a custom music distro.Improv wrote:Just curious-did you know that the Studio To Go! commercial Debian distro uses your NovaKill FEARkILLER as an example of a vsti that can be used with Wine and RoseGarden?BONES wrote:Does that mean you need to install all your Windoze app's in the same directory as WINE or will it find them wherever they are?

It's another case of the "monkey see, monkey do" syndrome.
It's not easy to upgrade it either, I know as I have it but can't use it. Anyone want it...half price!
@ bones: when you install a windows app in wine it normally places it in the fake windows dir but you can chose, so when it is run wine knows where to find it.
Pity as I can't get LMMS to install, dependancy problems.
