Studiophonik????????

Hmmmm so i was reading about this in my sweetwater catalog and i wanted to learn more about it so i went to ik multimedia site and there is nutthin there? i mean i heard about this thing last year and still have not seen it i mean did i miss something did it come out all ready? or is it gonna come out any time soon??

To make it what we really wanted to it to be like we announced it early, at least in retrospect from right now. We could have released it a while ago but we take pride in our work and want this product to be amazing. From absolutely fantastic developments by IK in the ST2 engine's built-in studio effects system that it will have to the sheer amount of variety of brands and detailed expressive samples you can be assured that the extra time it has taken to develop only means better value than what has already been announced.

There isn't much information on line yet but there will be when it is just a bit closer to release. We're not that far off. You can find information in IK's catalog though if you can manage to get one of those. It's pretty deluxe. A lot of info in there. But, all of the features have not yet been revealed.

Hey Squids, I have a question about StudioPhonik. I'm using ST 2.1.1 along with Amplitube to make parody songs, which I do for a living. I only sing and play guitar so all other intruments that I need come from ST 2.1. Will the StudioPhonik sound set yeild better results for me than just ST 2.1? Are there new features or will I just be adding new sounds if I buy Studio Phonik when it comes out?

If you're mainly doing band-style arrangements (drums, guitars, keyboards, etc) then Studiophonik is for you. It's much more focussed on band instruments, it's going to have more instruments, larger samples, more details, more articulations, etc. It is to bands what Miroslav Philharmonik is to orchestras.

Are there new features or will I just be adding new sounds if I buy Studio Phonik when it comes out?

There are going to be new engine features that will work with the new sounds to make it much more than just an add-on library or "yet another sample-player instrument".

What about horns? In the early days of Studiophonik musings (you know..back around the 100th anniversary of the "Entente Cordiale" ) there was talk of a horn section - ala Steeley Dan. As of late, seems like guitars, bass, keyboards and 9,172,643,223 drum variations are all that are mentioned.

What's the scoop?

I do have some songs with it but they aren't ready to be played yet. Perhaps at some point they will though.

There's a full horn section. It is discrete too so you can pan each of the trumpets, trombones and saxes where you want.

If a virtual Steely Dan is what you want, then this hits the nail on the head.

Wow! I just watched the video on Sonicstate. It is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Especially the drum aspect of it. I was thinking I was going to have to upgrade my 'lite' version of BFD, but I had no idea SP would have mic control with the drums. Nice! Now I really can't wait for it to come out. GOD, waiting sucks!!! lol

Yeah, there's also more variety of different rooms than BFD. But, BFD is for full on engineering of each mic track, this isn't. Actually, we DO have something for loops that IS multitrack like that. They are called Studio Profiles http://www.studioprofiles.com So you can mix those like you can in BFD. But, they are loops.

Studiophonik lets you mix more basic elements like directs, overheads or rooms. However, it is more about the character of the sounds which is diverse so you can get everything from a Motown sound to a Jazz sound to a Zep rock sound to a Beatlesque sound etc. That's not just for the drums. I know we talk about that a lot here but the guitar and bass in it is mind blowing as well. Some of the new acoustic guitars are the best I've ever heard. There is a Martin 6 string on there that is almost the exact same sound as Led Zep's Over the Hills and Far Away. A Taylor 12 string that sounds so beautiful you could cry. We recorded it with two AKG C28 tube mics and an M49 (I think you'll be able to mix between the two). Majestic!

One of the things that really makes the library so good is the variety of great acoustic spaces we used and the particular gear that is CHOICE! Avalon, Neve, Manley, API, Great River and top quality and sometimes rare mics... There really isn't anything like Studiophonik. But, we didn't want to just toss it out there. It's a work of art and something I would like to use a lot myself for creating the instrumentation of a virtual band with production style in the fastest way possible. I think it will be some people's favorite plug-in. But, of course, it is not for everyone. It is a bit advanced as far as tastes go. Not EVERYONE is looking for the instrumentation of The Beatles or The Police, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Nirvana (we even sampled the exact snare used on Nevermind and Offspring)...

But, we're getting closer to the finish line. I will keep you guys updated.
