Ask yourself this........synthedit aside (as i don't think that matters any in either a positive or negative way) What does it do that the delays you already have don't?

This will sound trite, but it's worth what you think it is. Having seen some here go nuts over a $1000 parametric eq (with a $2 gui) that would pay for a lot of other plug-ins, it's obvious that intrinsic worth is in the eye of the beholder. If you don't already have a few dozen delay/echo/reverb plugs that do what this one does, and you like the way it sounds, then it's worth $50.LIMITAPROACHINGINFINITY wrote:http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2018.html
What do you guys think of this? Worth it?

ET-100Another prototype in my unending quest for a DECENT BB-style delay. (yes, I've tried all the others and they suck).
ET-100 sounds pretty damn close to my DM-300, particuarly when performing severe time/pitch warping in realtime.

Ditto.
$50 is certainly not out of the ballpark for a delay, if it sounds OK. I don't personally need another delay, so I have no idea what this one sounds like. Synthedit usually puts me off for VSTi, but I have bought Synthedit FX (Spectralive is an excellent quality plugin). In fact, I think I prefer Synthedit-produced FX over synths. Didn't Retrodelay start out as Synthedit too?
I'd happily pay more than $50 for things like Ohmboyz and the PSP delay. If you like it, and it does something different, then buy it.

I find these kinds of things really fishy.
It says in the description that it "faithfully emulates the workings of BBD (Bucket-Brigade Device) analogue delay-line FX."
But how can you emulate a specific set of analog circuits with synthedit?
You're just patching prewritten (custom or not) modules together, there's no way that I'm aware of to model a specific kind of analog saturation, distortion or modulation.
Same goes for all the other synthedit "emulations."
It seems like all you can do is use some generic custom module, maybe slap on some distortion, then call it a "faithful recreation" of analog circuits.

i read on the workings of bb-delays recently, and although maybe(!) inefficient, i can imagine it being possible in something like SE.3*s wrote:I find these kinds of things really fishy.

i image for the most part accurate emulation simply means creating under-the-hood modulation for your plug, so it behaves similar to the original units' inherent inner signal modulation...
i may of course be wrong, but to me it would only make sense. in any case personally i consider myself settled using dubstation and arcdev's et-100.
(SE isn't almost completely high level, is it? really, never tried it...

Unless you get into custom module programming, synthedit is very high-level.
No custom modulation paths, just standard lfos.
If someone has the programming skill to model the distortion and modulation inherent in an analog delay, then one would think programming their own GUI instead of a synthedit module would be no problem, especially if they plan on selling the plug.
It seems illogical to go through the trouble of modeling the behavior of an analog delay and then get lazy at the final stage, only to have your hard work branded with the synthedit stigma.

well, i've never had a roland space echo (or put my hands on any other real tape delay), but i immediately recognized one on an album recently - so arcdev's dub box has to be reasonably close and his plugs are all SE creations.3*s wrote:Unless you get into custom module programming, synthedit is very high-level.

i took a look at the plug in question recently, though, and it didn't hold any appeal to me. spectralive, though is nice and i just got my copy yesterday, although the SE label had made me a little hesitant, to be honest.

HI
I think this plug sounds quite nice - I can't for the life of me understand why people are forever on this 'it's an SE product: give it to me for free' - I think it is sad that eople that take this type of view.
BUT - at the price it is up against things like Audio Damage's Dub station and Nusoftings Morphing delay (to name a few) and in comparison it offers none of the variety and flexability that they do.
So imo on a simple price/feature compo this plug will struggle, not because it is an SE creation.
OH yes the GUI!!! - it's HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Flipper.

Having worked alongside a man on a project in synthedit I must say one thing. It's the person behind the application, the one using and creating in it, never the app itself. The reason synthedit gets such a bad rap is basically because everyone that wants to get into creating synths go straight for synthedit because it is so easy to use compared to other plug in makers. As well as how cheap it is. So you get a lot of folks just beginning who make their first subtractive and become enthusiastic enough to share it with the world. Nothing wrong with that, but it is the person behind the app that really matters. Dx-9 is amazing at it, Odo, UGO, etc.

original flipper has it.
the price of this echo is too high for serious competition and Synthedit must die because our moms told us to avoid freebies from strangers.

SE can be used like that, just using the 'obvious' signal paths and connections, but you can also use it wiith a little more flair, patching things together in unexpected ways to yeild different results..3*s wrote:You're just patching prewritten (custom or not) modules together, there's no way that I'm aware of to model a specific kind of analog saturation, distortion or modulation.
I would challenge anybody to create copies of my last 3 plug-ins unless they specifically knew how I'd put them together..
But somebody else's point about SE having a 'my first synth' reputation is also valid.. It all depends on the amount of work that has been put into it..

AudioDamage Dubstation is cheaper, and i think it's worth the try !!
There are plenty of very good free delays in every style (have you tried the kjaherus classic?), if you really want to spend money, why did you choose that one ?
