chase, he has to release the hemos first, with someone as small as you that's quite delicate...kinda like doing brain surgery on a flea... :P

yes I know he changed your quote... :P :hihi:

Image-Line said the ASIO engine was re-written, so that's probably the root of the problems. This seems to affect a lot of M-Audio USB cards (Quattro, OmniStudio, Mobile Pre, Audiophile, Fasttrack, Ozone). I'm surprised that none of the beta testers had these types of cards. For a temporary fix, ASIO4All seems to work well.

Has anyone tried out the Morphing Equalizer yet? That thing is nice! You can control volume, panning, and the four sends by individual EQ bands. Talk about some crazy ass effects.

in the audio settings window set the priority to highest and it will be fine...it should have been the default setting...;)

how could I not pick this option when I didn't pay 1 cent and got a bunch of new useful improvements :)

Actually, it's acting fairly blotchy on an Echo Mia at 11ms latency, too. It works fine for a bit, in fact I can even work it fine at 5ms for a while. But out of nowhere it skids into madness. To repair it, I open the ASIO4ALL panel and check and uncheck the "Force to..." radio button. Then close and all is well again. Very strange. This happend before FL6, too, but not nearly as often as now.

ASIO4ALL is monstrously outperforming the native ECHO drivers, though. They're not even usable at the moment.

in short, ASIO is now in its own thread. We made this because of shitty (read: pro) drivers out there thet kept crashing.

The only result of this is that those who were using a 5ms latency might have to raise to 7ms, max 10ms, and nothing else.

So if you had to raise your latency to 50ms, look somewhere else, because it can't be FL's fault.

Problems are usually from people who:

-think that 7ms is really a too huge latency for them

-didn't bother updating their audio settings (probably assuming that FL was transferring them - why not), so are comparing different drivers & latencies

-don't even know about FL's audio settings

-don't even know about ASIO drivers (I've seen some complaining about that fake directsound-wrapping ASIO driver that comes with Cubase)

-don't know about samplerates

-didn't raise the mixer's priority (default to high, not highest, so that the GUI will slow down much less on high CPU loads). It's a tradeoff between GUI smoothness & CPU allocated to the mixer instead. Up to you to decide what you prefer.

Otherwise, it's the same as with each release. Some think it sounds better, some think it sounds worse (...), some think it has better or worse performances. As with every release, nothing has changed here.

Really, if you had to raise your latency above 10ms because it doesn't work anymore, look somewhere else. If you had to raise your latency from 5ms to up to 10ms, yes it's normal. If you have a pro (read: shitty) soundcard, you'll benefit from more stability (no more hangs after lengthy processing).

If you have a common (read: perfect & working) soundcard (audigy, or even one built-in the motherboard), you'll still get a 10ms latency or less through ASIO, and still the same stability.

ttc, I don't think "pro" soundcards are shitty. I'd just like to let you know that I use a soundcard from the EMU line of pro cards, and I've used it anywhere from very low to very high latencies with no problems. This is in FL5 and FL6.

Don't be so negative with your own software, come on :)

I hope not all of them. But we've had lots of problem reports from pro soundcard owners. While as usual, a simple audigy just works.

The most common problem is the 'playback position report'. That is, an audio driver must be able to say 'ok right now I'm playing this part of a previous buffer'. Only the soundcard can know that. If you need accurate playback markers, recording of events exactly when they happened, and accurate MIDI to audio sync, you need this basic feature.
Unfortunately, not every soundcard does it correctly, far from it.. If you have jerky playback cursors, you're the victim of a pro soundcard.

Anybody know why the colors for MIDI channels 1-16 are so close together? Seems like it should go Green Blue Orange Red or whatever, rather than Green, really really close to Green, really really close to that other Green, almost Blue, Blue, etc etc

I seriously cant get over the new EQ...Now I can create the multi-band distortion of my dreams!

It depends on how you regard the upgrade program. I don't think of it as a free gift at all. It's a big part of the reason I bought the product, which I would never have done if the vendor charged for updates. The update is a crucial feature of the product, and not some extra, unexpected thing. It's actually on the bottom line of reasons they got my business in the first place.

It's definable by the user, right?

I'm agreeing with the sentiment that I'd like to be able to disable everything that "moves" differently now. I like the look of things, but I don't like all the movement. I'm also experiencing the decreased ASIO performance with my Steinbert MI4 USB audio interface.
