How have your expectations been met...so far?

...a little playing around with a vacuum cleaner and DirectWave has yielded a passable bass patch. It's nothing really special except if you know it's composed of one sample of a vacuum cleaner powering down. Hehe, I'm gonna enjoy this...

Only had a couple of hours on it, but I agree. Even without changing the ASIO thread priority, it was very good. My only problem is the same with all hosts. If I do anything that requires disk access, such as loading a VSTi in a channel, I get a stuttery ripping noise while it loads. I assume this is an IRQ thing, but I don't really know how to fix it.

I don't get it. I've got a 1.7Ghz computer, 512MB of RAM (so really not the best anymore these days), an AC'97 (one of the shittiest cards ever), and usually I also have Opera running in the background with an average of about 30 tabs open, which takes up quite a bit of memory, yet I don't have any problems when Mixer is set to Highest and I'm using ASIO4ALL.

I don't even actively go out there and disable everything that could suck a bit of performance. The only thing I do is make sure I don't have too many startup programs, and that I don't ever to go any websites using Internet Explorer. I haven't had Virus, Spyware, or anything more than annoying performance problems in years.

I can easily get 2 ms with An Audigy 2 ZS. Nothing seems to have changed for me.

for me I used 6 midi outs for my sampler (bass samples only) but the 4 main ones I use are fingered, fingered slide, slap, and slap slide...naturally they were channels 1-4. But like you say the colors are very close when going horizontal, so I use them vertical...ie channels 1, 5, 9, 13...problem solved...:)

Yeah, I've been thinking of doing that :P should work out fine.

My main problem is that I have to use separate instances of my multitimbral sampler/romplers if I want to take advantage of the different colored MIDI notes thing. It's fine for you since you do bass only, but I need to do this for most of the instruments in an orchestra :P so I'm back to MIDI Outs again, either that or use an instance of Philharmonik for each individual instrument I want to sequence for. I'm doing the former for now, I'll test out the latter and see if it's too CPU hungry or not (obviously I'll have to disable the built-in Send reverb per-instance :()

I notice the Discovery2 demo locks FL Studio 6 with loud squeak then the output VU's are stuck at 100%. I get no sound until I delete the Discovery2 channel.

FL Midi input still doesn't seem to distinguish between instruments - I can't route one channel of MIDI to a specific channel.

The multi-midi channel pianoroll is useful but the colours are too close to tell them apart. Also, I've only got a few instruments that handle multiple channels (DirectWave and shortcircuit).

The "detect scale" feature is useful but I would have preferred to set it myself and then see what notes are on scale or not, rather than have FL6 trying to work it out for me.

As for DirectWave - very nice, like shortcircuit but with VSTi freezing - not tried that yet.

The new effects I've still got to get my head around; EQUO was well shown off in the excellent NewStuff song.

it still wouldn't matter much for me because I use vsampler for bass samples...on other samples or fonts I'll want a seperate PR for anyhow, but I still can use one instance of vsampler.

I haven't figured out yet it there is a way to isolate midi channels/notes stacked on each other. For instance I also use B4 and I have three midi outs for it. It would be nice to be use this feature as well here. But unlike with bass samples that are based on style, with B4 I'm going to have more overlapping notes. To isolate those in one piano roll would be pretty cool...although as I type this I realize that ghost channels may be better for that anyhow and that's what I'm use to now. ;)

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy (been using FL since 2001) I'm happy to report that FL 6 is running perfectly for me and I'm as impressed as always with the quality of their software and updates.

I'm currently running Windows XP Professional x64 Edtion with an AMD Athlon X64 4400+ Dual Core processor and FL Studio works flawlessly. Great work Image Line!
