Here is what I have. I have Spin Audio's Roomverb M2, which I have liked but it just lacks something. I also have a Lexicon MPX 550.
I'm looking for some better reverb. (Have a PC). Pristine Space sounds pretty good. I haven't heard anything better in the general ballpark (although the Wavearts GUI is nicer).
Should I
1) Spend the $90 on Pristine Space. A good deal right now.
2) Go with Wizoo Verb (at 3x the price!)
3) Wait for Altverb to come out on PC
4) Save up for a Lexicon PCM91

Grab pristine space or voxengo analogflux pack (a cutdown version of pristine space comes with it). They are the best sounding convolution plugins.
Then grab these:
http://www.noisevault.com/index.php?opt ... t=category
http://www.echochamber.ch/responses/index.html (the vss3 32bit is the one you want)
...and you're pretty much set when it comes to reverbs. Those two impulse packs are the best ones there are right now, no need to look for others, apart from few rough character impulses also available at the noisevault site.

I must say that if you're looking to be in the Lexicon league, any of your 4 options should work. Personally, I think the Wizoo verb is the best out there, however it coms at a huge CPU hit (almost double Pristine Space. Pristine Space can sound as good as W2 with the right impulses but is less tweakable. I am currently using Pristine Space Light and am struggling with CPU usage problems let alone using the W2. So in my opinion, I'd go with the Voxengo plugin. Also Wizoo just got acquired by Digidesign which can only mean bad things for us VST folks. It's hard to know what Digidesign will do.
I think the W2 is definitely worth the price if your CPU can take it, Pristine Space with the echochamber impulses matches the quality but is less tweakable.
As for options 3 & 4 ... not totally sure. I use around 2 - 3 reverbs per song, at least a short and long verb, somtimes a really long verb ... I don't think a single unit would hardware hit home for me.
Just my 2 cents, good luck with your decision
Cheers

If you aquired a used license for Reaktor, you'd have access to not only Space Master and Fusion Reflections, two of my most used effects EVER, but also several other very high quality and unique verb effects such as LaserBrew, a metallic verb, PHI-Master(the lushest sounding verb I've ever used), Ultimate Reverb, a 2nd party expansion of Space Master that is stunning in breadth and scope of parameter control, and Kraftverb a room simulator you have to hear for yourself; all are exclusively available through the Reaktor User Library in ADDITION to the rest of the Reaktor Universe that would open up before you like a bottomless pit..
A Reaktor Sessions licence would probably be obtainable at this point for $150 or less.
For me it's a no brainer..but all previously suggested alternatives are also excellent.

Did you check out Arts Acoustic Reverb? My fave PC verb.
Sickle, that's an interesting suggestion. Reaktor has a really nice chorus too, if I remember correctly...plus you get the craziest synth in the world...hmm...

he is referring to the recently discontinued Reaktor Session, a stripped down version of the package. It plays Reaktor ensembles, but doesn't let you create them.soundpalace wrote:is Reaktor erally only 150 ?

Number 4).
There are some very good impulses around, but you lose so much flexibility with convolution. And for anything with long tails, certainly for me, it means rendering because of the CPU hit, which can be a real pain. I don't much like most of the other native reverbs apart from Princeton (but PACE
).
Save up for a PCM...it'll still be good quality compared to the alternatives even in 5/10 years time. No CPU hit. And they just sound good. You know you want one...

Hmm... I use Waves IR-1... i like it fine(price was too high in retrospect), although its a huge cpu hog... but so are all convolution reverbs. I can't use it realtime in my projects though...
I should be able to, after I upgrade to a dual core cpu. I'm still on an Athlon XP 1900!
If Altiverb hit PC, I might switch to it.
For general pupose stuff, I use my ol Sonitus Ultrafunk reverb... its alright, but nothing to write home about.
The Arts Acoustic Reverb and the Wave Arts Master Verb v5 seem quite nice. I kinda want to get one or the other, but since I just got the Princeton, I might not, unless there is a price drop. There's also the Princeton Digital 2016 Reverbs.

yes, find a second hand deal and never look back... ehmmm ... almostfeyshay wrote:4) Save up for a Lexicon PCM91
... even if the ITB reverbs are great these days, the small adjustments/tweaks you can make to a real PCM (e.g. pitch modulation that cant be done with convolution) is way better then 100s of impulse variants ... but thats just the sound.
The most practical way to get great reverb is to use a convo engine with exact recall (per song and track) and dont have to think about an external outboard...

Alright. Thanks for the various responses. Thanks for the impulse links. It looks like I have a number of good options.
I didn't mean to downplay how good Roomverb is. It is very good. I wanted a convolution reverb, also, and Pristine Space may be the best value for that right now.
I'd like to be able to send from my Firebox to my Lexicon MPX 550 without going through the A/D and D/A conversion in the Lexicon. I have some nice conversion with my Apogee mini-me/mini-dac combo and don't want to muck it up too much with reconverting throught the Lexicon.
I want to record dry from my preamp into Live 5 and then send from Live 5 through my Firebox through its Spdif out to the Lexicon spdif in and then back into the Firebox from the Lexicon through spdif and record the processed signal(a resampling through the Lexicon). I can't get this working. I get this loop it seems where each device (the Firebox and Lexicon) are looking for the other unit to be the master clock (and neither asserts itself).
Any way to get around this. Any solutions?
Is this a limitation of the Firebox, Lexicon or both of them. How do you typically use an external effects device within a computer DAW, staying within the digital realm (with spdif connections)?

Some lowcost gears dont have master clock (e.g. TC M300), and you need atleast one master clock, otherwise you cant record with the spif. Look in the manual and see how they explain the spif setup and if they need a external masterclock.feyshay wrote: I can't get this working. I usually stay with spif with my audio card. Its clean and easy.feyshay wrote: How do you typically use an external effects device within a computer DAW, staying within the digital realm (with spdif connections)?

Both the Firebox and the Lexicon MPX 550 have options for internal and external clock source. I tried it with different combinations, but couldn't get a resampling by outputting spdif from the Firebox to the Lexicon and then back from the Lexicon.
My Mini-me and Mini-dac can act as soundcards, but I can't do the routing with them.
