Music is fun to make. I labour over and publish music because I'm an egotist, but I make music for the simple pleasure of it.

Always remain suspicious of those who fail to use correct casing in their posts - it's usually down to typing one-handed (if you know what I mean).

In a Guitar Player interview from about 20 years ago, Robert Fripp said that music chooses the most unlikely people to be its voice, and in my case I couldn't agree more

I've always been a big Playstation (and before that Megadrive and Sinclair Spectrum) game fan...but then I "found" music making a couple of years back; it's just as much fun (if not more so) and at least I've got something to show for it...and it keeps me off the glue!

Well ... when i 1st started playing guitar when i was like 14 i guess i thought id be cooler because of it

. Then later i kept doing it cause I liked it more and more and also maybe girls would like me more.

Now I guess its because i enjoy it and its a fun hobby. I also like it from a social perspective because its something u can do socially while doing something interesting and fun.

I'm not one yet.
I have lyrics which i'd like to compose the music for.
When I actually manage to finish a tune, & learn how to play keyboards I may deign to call myself a musician, or an aspiring one.
I tend to go so far with something & then delete it in despair, hopefully learning something along the way.
The fact that I keep following this behavioural pattern indicates (to me at least) that it's something that needs to be done for some reason.

BTW, bbanyard...you're right you shouldn't put yourself down for not playing an instrument. It's the job of us who do play instruments to put you down..

My dream as a boy was that of many in my era and home...to be a pro baseball player. I joined little league baseball to start my career at 10. When I reached 12 and it was time to move on to the next level it was clear I needed a new dream, in two years I had 1 or two hits (and a zillion strike outs).

Years before we had a guitar in the house and I learned "Skip to my Lou", "Jimmy Crack Corn" and "Down in the Valley" @ 8 (though I do not consider that when I started playing guitar as I had no idea what I was doing)

For my 12th (1971) birthday, up at the camp in Maine I got my first guitar, and there it started. I remember play those three songs all summer, that fall I added this cheesy pick up to my accoustic, that xmas I got an Alamo eletric guitar. I turned the accoustic into a bass (really) and built an amp with my dad. In Junior High (73) I played my first time before an audience with a guitar at a school talent show...I still cannot picture life without it.

FWIW I started on trumpet at 10 in school, but armstrong I wasn't so that only lasted about 4 years. It did however give me a good foundation to build on. In Junior High my mother would not allow me to watch tv on the weekdays, so I spent all my time playing guitar. She paid for a month of lessons, but the teacher was taking advantage of me in her opinion. See he wasn't teaching me folk songs, he taught me blues bars to start. I still can hear my mother saying I would never use what he taught me.

My mother tried until 2003 to stop me and change my course...but then the song I wrote for my sister's memorial service really touched her. She has completely flipped sides of the coin now...

I might make the song for my sister available to hear soon
