Intesting, no one has thought, that might be some sord of mastering plug-in, and is not much intendet to be a workHorse filter ?

I mean come on, Sonalksis is not that stupid to make something for 200, and it was not first worth the price, and second was not doing someting that it is intendet to do normally.

All their plug-ins are among the best on the market

It's still a filter. Calling it a mastering plugin, that somehow makes it different from being a filter? You could say it is only for vocals, doesn't mean a thing since someone could just as easily use it on drums.

That one thought comes to mind ....Sonalksis guys went to pub, got drunk,went back to office and over the night wrote this filte, wrote public statement and released the news.

only the next day, they have realized what kind of monster they released.

Doubtful... nobody's going to use a 24 or 48dB/octave resonant filter in mastering.

A more interesting question might be, why doesn't it have the usual sort of modulation options you get with filters -- LFOs, envelope followers, etc.? I can only think that it's intended for people that /really/ care about their filter sweeps, and will be using host automation exclusively.

YES!!!

It's good that the /really/ caring filter sweepers can concetrate on that ONE big shiny knob and don't get distracted from anything else like boring envelope followers, LFOs, etc.

That knob does make it tempting to shell out 200$ for sure.. we all know have fun it's to tweak knobs of good size.

When i saw the thing first time that was the thing that cames to mind, host automation... the automatic resonance calibration makes a lot of sense then.
I didn´t tried it yet but i guess i´ll feel compelled to buy it when i do.

its sounds good for what it does... 200 bucks... hmmm ...

I tried a sharp bandpass in different freqs on alot of reaktor seq ens and ended up with massive stuff happening without sounding muddy... pretty interesting to make music that way

I find that this thing doesn't scream even on the rude setting. It's just a rather polite sweepable filter. Do people still use filter plugins to sweep their strings, pads etc? If so then this overpriced thing will do that in a very smooth way.

If I was going to buy a dancetastic FX plugin that can sweep, scream and chop the shite out of a dance toon I'd buy CamelSpace.

If anyone is looking for more opinions on this thing, there's a thread over at OSX Audio about it which contains some interesting points and some amusing anti-KVR sentiment (including one idiot who frequently likes to suggest KVR is populated by warez-kiddies. Given that the anti-warez gestapo of old men tend to reside here, I find it pretty funny).

I did some extensive a/b testing of this filter on the weekend. Two things struck me: with a 12db slope, there is a remarkable amount of frequencies above the cutoff frequency left over compared to any other filter I tried; and the Rude setting appeared to have the same resonance setting as High, only it has some form of waveshaper/clipper on it (and adds a subharmonic to the fundamental), which in a lot of cases I found a little irritating.

That's him. To be fair to the guy, I've seen him be reasonable in his opinions on other stuff at OSXA (I lurk there for pointers on effects even though I don't have a Mac).

It's not the first time I've seen him say that stuff about KVR, though, and it always makes me laugh given the level of hate warez-kiddies actually get here.

Some people seek validation through identification, the perception that the group they belong to is somehow more 'leet' or 'pro' than others, thus they put rival groups down consciously or unconciously hoping that the rest of the group will agree & further stroke their sensitive ego's, thus gaining even more status & prestige within the particular closed self-referential system they are part of.
Bit sad when this behaviour is exhibited on internet forums though, but it's increasingly common isn't it really?
