I posted this in the dev forum a while ago, but I'm getting zero play, its kind of slow on the weekends I guess.
I'm working on my first plugin. Its a simple pattern arpeggiator. I think I'm about done, so I'd very much like some feedback.

Here it is. ~350Kb (link is updated for the latest version)

You need a host that can route midi between synths, and you simply put the synth you want to play after the arpeggiator.
The grid is empty at start up so you need to put some notes in there before you get any output. You have too play to of course.

Oh, and its called Peggy and has a bunny on it.

Post

It's a very cute bunny :-) and it looks simple and straightforward - I'd go for it if my arp needs were not already covered by energy xt.
An arpeggiator like this is very useful for all those great synths that have no built in arp thingy.

yow seeing that i dont use ext i should check this out!

Looks like a tracktion interface too, im excited hopefully i have time to get back to you

ps an idea - make the bunny morph into a turtle as you change the speed :)

Post

Hi

I will check it out. :)

I love arp bunnies.

Thanx. :)

Its written with JUCE so the simmilarity to tracktion is not coincidental. This also makes it GPL so if anyone wants the source, send me a PM.

Morphing the pic :D possible but a total waste of resources.

Anyway, I just want to make sure its working at the moment.

This is really cool. If you could turn that grid into more of a piano roll - i.e. per note lengths / velocites, extend it vertically to allow +/- octaves, and give finer control over pattern length / resolution, I'd pay for this.

Post

wow! this *can* really lend itself to some cool Philip Glass-like stuff.
Love the idea, really- but either I don't fully understand the functionality or there may be something going on-- if I have a "dot" on each of the lowest grid spaces (row at the bottom of the GUI) for a pattern (length 8, Beats 16) I should not hear a "rest", correct? If that is the case- there is some inconsistency in behavior of the plug (I tested this in eXT 1.4 beta 16 dec 2005 and Live 5.0.2) Sometimes Peggy grabs the pattern with no rests; sometimes an 1/8 rest is introduced at the end of the pattern. This does not appear to occur on patterns where the beat division is 4 or 8; just for 16 and 32.

in any case-
Thanks very much for the bunny!

Hmm, is the break added or does it drop a step?
In traction it sometimes drops the first step when you play in loop mode.
I suspose its the bar syncing that misfires somehow. Maybe I should add a toggle for that.

Post

Would certainly benefit of some shuffle/swing mode.
Otherwise: Thanks.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

UPDATE.

I added a toggle for the beat syncing. It always syncs to tempo, but if the sequencer is playing or recording, it tries to match the pattern to the track time so if you start in the middle of a beat it still finds its place. This can cause problems when you play a loop though. Notes get dropped and stuff.

Well, now you can turn that behaviour on or off.

Here it is!

EDIT:

Here is the source

..And thanks for the feedback everyone. Adding a more complicated grid, like a piano roll would certainly be cool , but hasn't someone done that already? Same with shuffle.

I figured I would keep it brutally simple, as a feature sort of.

the break is added- but no extra beats are added. It stays in sync but simply doesn't play for one 1/8 note.

the sync you've added does help because you can cycle it off/on and you'll get the full pattern back, but eventually it throws a rest in there again
(love that the "clear" button is Peggy's tail :P)

So thats a propper bug then.
I'll see if I can replicate it with the energyXT demo so I can get some debug data out of it.
Thanks

Bug fixed, so I think everything is good now.
