Hello,

A friend gave me his copy of sampletank 2xl as he didn't want it anymore, go figure. I installed it on my computer (3ghz, 1.25mb ram) and tried using it through Sonar 3, but some of the sounds get stuck, like there is sustain on them that won't come off, and it makes it so that I can't use polyphony. (I'm not playing a keyboard, it's just the midi track playback).

I've tried getting around this by running multiple instances of sampletank with each note of the "chord" I want to be played on a separate channel, but that's only a temporary solution, since I simply won't use this if I have to go through that much trouble and use up that much cpu just to get a chord to play.

I've dealt with plugins before that don't turn off once their notes are finished, but usually they still play correctly while playing, this just sounds like someone's keeping their foot on the sustain pedal.

Anyway, sorry about writing so much, am I missing something here? Is there a way to use the polyphony on this thing without all the notes perpetually sustained and causing a big noisy mess? Or maybe the reason my buddy gave it to me is because he somehow managed to screw it up and I'll just have to go without it.

Too bad too, some of this stuff sounds good and I'd like to explore it more.

Thanks.

(PS-When I do play it with my keyboard, it generally works fine with chords and polyphony, except if I play too hard, too much velocity. I've tried playing around with the velocity, and a few other things, but I can't figure it out.)

Try downloading and installing the MIDI Sustain pedal fix from Tencrazy, available here for free.

I install this in the effects bin of each MIDI track in Sonar. I check "supress all notes off message" and "force 0/127 values for hold pedal", and things work fine. It's worth a try. BTW, it's not really ok for your friend to "give" you Sampletank, even if he no longer wants to use it. (not to put too fine a point on it) He can however transfer his license to you for a $100 transfer fee.

actually I tried that before and it doesn't seem to work

I don't have enough money to be buying things out just to try, if this wins me over (which it could if I can get it to work on my computer) then maybe I'll get the new version.

I believe unregistered/unauthorized installs of ST2 have limited polyphony. Perhaps this is the problem.

Those that can, do. Those that can't, argue about it on k-v-r

this sounds like the problem. if you try this plugin in another sequencer and it also has limited polyphony you'll know for sure. do you remember going through the authorization process yet? if not you are reminded to everytime the plugin is shown.
