I just started out making electronic music that tends towards d'n'b. "Tends towards" because I can't seem to stick with the genre. That has everything to do with the reason I chose to do so: after years of making relatively modest music, I wanted to make something in which I could just let myself go. I really love it; I get kick ass music all the time...

I've been listening to the DnB channel on di.fm quite a bit lately. The best tracks are usually the ones that aren't the generic thick bass+same beat ... theres really some gems there, with complex beats that dont repeat and a "normal" bassline ... theres this one with a piano in it that I really liked but I don't know what its called.

And about the FL comment - lots of people also use Reason for DnB because its so easy to make those particular sounds.

Why does everyone diss on FL? I never understood this. I have been using it for five years, and making money with it for three. It has never let me down.

Because they're idiots.

we attack what we don't understand, furthermore we hang tags on everything...sometimes we false tag things...FL might be one of the best examples...I'm willing to bet if FL cost 200 dollars more it would get ten times the respect.

Instead the thought process is more like....wow this is cool, this is nice, hey that's a good idea....but it's only 150 bux, professional apps cost three to four time as much, it doesn't fit in the same slot as the price suggests....therefore FL must not be as professional, it must be a toy....sadly I think the step sequencer (though loved by many) and things like chrome only help to perpetuate the false toy image.

But don't let it bring you down, let it bring down jmc (no offense jmc) it's his job to worry about his company...we can take comfort in knowing the truth about the quality of FL, saving money is always nice cause you can afford more...so those who put it down are the ones that suffer...:)

It's fun and easy to go creative with "half-fabricated" parts and pieces, but only to a certain point. Does the right sequence of reasonably ok loops make anyone sit up and listen or jump up and dance? If you really want to use ready-made loops, make sure you blend it properly with your own tracks. Just don't make your listeners feel they've heard it before.

Post

I actually dont use any pre made loops, I might loop a part I made either by programming or playing the instrument. But I have no loops in my machine at all that I didn't create (I probably have zillion on discs that came with software thoUgh)...but I don't write D&B either

Because it's very popular. It really is that simple, except for Bones, who seems to carry some kind of grudge from a time that he was a FL beta tester or something.

Don't forget that FLStudio was designed for making electronic music, which is still considered degenerate in many circles. Thanks to Image Line a lot of people have gotten a chance to make music and many of them have become serious musicians because of it, but because it's such an accessible piece of equipment that's attractive to budding musicians, it's gotten a reputation for being used for generic techno, drum and bass and trance. People conveniently ignore the fact that a good number of people like Hink here, who know what they're doing, prefer FLStudio because it's just easy to use and fun to work with.

Image Line can't win. If FLStudio was as much as other "pro" gear, it'd be criticized for not being accessible enough, but now people criticize it for being too accessible. Oh well.

FLStudio is a wee monster. I'd love them to "make" a version with no synths though, keep the $99 price if they wish, but i just don't like installing things i'll never use. I know i'm on the demo.......but when i open to add a synth and all these fruity... fruity... buzz... etc show up, it kills my balls off :(

Oh, and d'n'b is the easiest thing to spell :P (i love "old skool" jungle/d&b btw...i'm not slating it at all :P )
