I thought LiveSlice was for slicing and rearranging beats

That's why I bought it...

but slowly I'm finding out about it's true power...

Of course it's a very flexible tool to chop up beats, and just be creative with that.

But how about using the groove of a loop to control panning / volume / envelope / etc of another sound or pad even... e.g. a loop based gate effect

Or use that groove to send CC's out to the next VST in the chain, e.g. controlling a delay / chorus / reverb...

Probably old news to most of you, but a new insight for me today . And it helps my post count too.

I don't think I ever did that actually - good idea
I've been using LiveSlice a lot to extract the groove of one loop and insert slices from another, but not as a midi sequencer only.
It's a great way to get some interaction between the drums and the chords without forcing it with a vocoder or a comb filter.
Actually it made me think of an old idea I had forgotten about:
to automatically set the midi parameters based on the rms amplitude or average frequency of the events in the track.

Actually my thinking about this started when I was figuring out how the MIDI out CC's work. Not difficult, and Darkstar's quickref helped too .

Next thought step was to let the CC's control a flanger, so it only works on a hihat segment and not on the rest...

tbh i primarily use LS for slicing drumloops and use one or two tracks in an arrangement rearranging that loop.

but i always knew that it has more to offer (after all i made a whole demo-song using only LS ).. and slowly i find out that the audio-input is a real blessing and extends the possibilities to a new level.

time to make some songs again..
