Magix Sequoia is multitrack host for sure, but can Sequoia work as a sequencer (in Sonar, FL or Tracktion style)? If can, is it any good?
I'm Tracktion 2 user (into electro music) in position to buy Sequoia v7.2 for great price, so I would like to know that.
Thx

Sequoia isn´t a sequencer but it has great value, i´m not a samplitude user but its compressor and filters are te best there are, and who knows maybe next upate it has better MIDI implementation.

Hi Cornix ,
Midi in Sequoia 7.2 is the same as the midi in Samplitude 7.2. What you get is a piano roll editor in its early incarnation plus VST & VSTi support. For much better midi functionality I would suggest you do the upgrade to version 8.21. In the latest version you get the choice between Matrix or Cell editing . Matrix is the piano roll type editor which works pretty well and is improving with each release.Cell is perfect for drum programming (the main reason I crossgraded from Logic).
VST and VSTi implemention is pretty solid although the VSTi routing can be a little awkward to learn initially .You can freeze VST Instuments which is very handy.Seq/Samp really excels as a multitrack host and the midi side is catching up . I'll be very interested what V9 brings to the table. Lets me know if you have any specific questions and I will try to help.
Regards

Seqouia has a lot of value not alone for FX and MIDI but because of its integration with other formats(export\import fnctionalities) things that only hardcore pro are interested in
and willing to pay for.
The difference bettwen Sequoia and Samplitude, could be the same bettwen SX and Nuendo, aparently none, until one is at pro studio.
Well i write because i thought Sequoia 7 was the equivalent to Samp 8, i thougth their versions were a number apart... am i rigth???

I'm sorry but this is not correct . Samp and Seq are the same regardless of version numbers but Sequoia has a few key differences :Well i write because i thought Sequoia 7 was the equivalent to Samp 8, i thougth their versions were a number apart... am i rigth???
1- Source/Destination edit
2- Extended Crossfade Editor
3- Interface for sound restauration plugins(reNOVAtor, Descratcher)
4- DDP 2.0 Support
5- Administrator/Network Support
6- Special Audio Marker Support
7- Modulation of impulse responses
for room simulator
8- Clipstore & Multi - Source Manager
9- Ready for DSD/SACD Mastering
10- Up to 12 channel surround
Besides these differences both Samp and Seq V8 have exactly the same features including :
1- Number of tracks (stereo/mono) 999
2- Submix-/Aux-Busses 64/64
3- Room simulator/Convolution - Realtime / 5.1 Surround
4-5.1 Surround/Object surround
5- Midi Editor
6-MAGIX Elastic Audio
7- MAGIX Analogue Modelling Suite
8- MAGIX Robota Pro
9- Rewire
10-Pow-R Dithering
As of version 8.2 both include :
1- Track Folders
2- Take composer (great for compimg mutiple takes)
3- Magix Vintage FX Suite .
Both Programs allow you to Master and burn a CD direct from the the program.
Hope that helps

Samplitude is definitely pro-level stuff. 8.21 has most MIDI features that other 'higher-end' hosts/production suites have, but know that Samplitude's legacy has always been more pro-audio production rather than MIDI.
Samplitude/Sequoia works great as a host. Drum mapping is great with apps. such as dfh Superior and jamstix. The elastic audio and analog modeling are pretty amazing tools.
It's a slightly different paradigm than Tracktion, and I personally find Samplitude's (and Sequoia's) GUI/approach more UN-friendly to electronic music than some others like Acid or Ableton Live, etc.

Don't ask me, I just play here.

Oh, and Magix is working on the vst routing scheme for future upgrades. Mostly a better GUI visualization to see how the plugins/effects/sends are setup.

Also, Samplitude/Sequoia have very good looping/timestretch/pitchshift capabilities.
And it sounds different (read: better) than most other sequencers. The bottom seems tighter, and the top seems smoother. I never believed one sequencer could sound different than another until I heard Samplitude. I Couldn't believe my ears!I bought it immediately, and have never looked back (I was a Sonar user). If You can get a good deal on Sequoia, I'd jump all over it.
