Hey, I've been reading these threads and I have to say this guitar sounds quite amazing.
I was just wondering, I have Mac OSX (Tiger) and is there a MIDI program that works for it? I've noticed people talking about MIDI-OX, but I don't believe it's for Mac. Do I need one of these programs to use the EZ-EG?
Also could somebody explain to me the significance of the Sysex Messages it sends out? I'm totally new to MIDI, so sorry for that.

Totally unrelated, just to make sure I understand the guitar, you can play open strings right? You just have to pick them? Or are they totally not a function? Thanks.

If I missed a post about this topic, forgive my ignorance (theres just sooo many posts though).

The Ez guitars send both notes and sysex messages. The sysex (fret down/up and string info + some extra) allows a programmer to totally ignore the notes generated by the guitar and create new playing modes.
And yes you can trigger open strings thought sometimes it's good to turn them off.
For the scripts we are not using MIDI-OX but a special dll that allows MIDI I/O with a script embedded in an html document.

Depending of your host, you can change the behaviour of the guitar without using a MIDI plug.
Using SX plugs (transformer), I was able to bypass open strings and fret velocity. But to play legato (without plucking the strings) you will need a plug or external app that can read sysex, as there is otherwise no way to know if a fret below the one being played is pressed or not.

Again, to my knowledge nobody did something similar to these two scripts for mac. I'm currently porting my script to VST-MIDI, but it's windows only. And as I'm using the same interface for the standalone, Vst and Mfx versions, I'm using windows controls, so it would not be to easy to convert to mac.

check out osxaudio.com for threads on Midipipe. It's a simple program that I use to filter out fretted note-on messages. There are some good folks there who can help you as well. Midipipe is a great program.
