if you're on a broadband static connection, you could use something like analogx simpleserverwww http://www.analogx.com/contents/downloa ... /sswww.htm and link using either your host supplied name, or a service like .tk or cjb.net
a lot of people dont realize when they pay for access to the network, they are being supplied with a full scale connection, where they can host services as well as access them.
i actually am not aware of any commercial provider which does not provide direct root level access to arpanet.

why dont you like soundclicks? if you dont mind me asking. i've been using it for a few months now and other than the 10 a month i'm pretty happy with it.

depending on whether you live in north america, europe or a different continent why not look into a normal hosting service and start your music site from scratch?

You wont find a good free hosting service. Every single site has some limitation that will make it not worth it.
Myspace re-codes the mp3s you upload to bad quality (sounds like less than 128 kbps to me)
7141 has an upload function even worse than soundclick but it just as limited in size.
I forget which others ive used, but in total ive tried probably 6 or 7, and was never happy with any.

You can get a free account with certain limitations or pay to get one without the limitations.Both accounts are free of ad pop ups etc.The free account allows you to upload 3 mps with a maximum of 8 meg file size each,bit rate is up to you.
It got a good mention in this month's Future Music magazine too.

I´m totally new to all this posting music.
I just want to be heard by the largest audience possible.
I work different music at different times and moods and would like to seperate them into different hosting services, until my own site is up.
that will probably be a while from now.

Mixposure is the best site I have found, looks cool, great people, your music gets reviewed, and they don't downgrade your mp3's so they sound great. I have tried most of them. The free membership gives you more than most sites and the mixpro membership is great. I don't work for the site, just happy with the service. I have been on there 6 months and do not have one complaint. Worth looking into if you want alot of exposure and some direct feedback on your tunes. Have a look at my site to get an idea of the feedback you will get.

It really is a cool and unique site, the reviewing system encourages interaction between artists and has lead to some amazing collaborations. I am now co-writing a track with the guitarist from Harry Connick Jr's band on his solo debut cd. We met through that site. Jeff Berlin will be on the cd, as well as Derrick James, a sax player who has played with Prince, Whitney Houston, and Acoustic Alchemy. And I was just some unknown guy. He heard my music, asked me to be a guest artist (I am still scratching my head over that one...) and the rest is history. But it is because of the interaction that the place encourages that made this possible.
