I've bought an iPod Nano a while ago and I really love it. However since I'm using WindowsXP I was a bit scared since iTunes needs quicktime player to work.

My fears where justified when realizing that clicking on online mp3 files (like almost all on this site) didn't open up Windows Media Player but instead started an IE embedded quicktime player instead. Trying to change the settings within the Quicktime player (regular file association, MIME settings) didn't change anything.

I've found the solution and I'm guessing I'm not the only one with this problem so here goes:

Open up Windows Media Player and open the "File Types" options under the menu "Tools"->"Options". Locate the MP3 checkbox and make sure it's checked and having a white background. (Uncheck and click it again if it's got dark gray background.) BINGO! Problem solved.

What's wrong with opening an embedded QT plug-in? I find it infinitely preferable to WMP.

Wow! Do these actually work?! If so this will be my favourite Christmas present this year! Gosh how I hate the bloody Quicktime and Realplayer shitware!

QT Alternative - works like a charm.

Personally I never had an issue with Real at all (but I only ever use it to play my South Park episodes, nothing else) ever, so I dunno wtf is up with that

yeh i got this quicktime shit now .. on my work PC aswell since we use iTunes

i dont like it

but i fucken hate windows media player even more .. it always tries to connect to the net to download some front page crap that i couldnt care less about

winamp is the only way to fly!
