well if any of you troglodites actually listened to the stuff, check the vinyl, check out dnbarena, labels like GLR, Hospital, Offshore or check other sites you wouldn't be so damn glib.

bah i dunno why so much electronic/dance music sounds the same .. when u can make so many different sounds, WHY GO FOR THE SAME SHITTY DETUNED "PHATT" LEAD SOUND YOU HARD HOUSE LOSERS etc...

Not blown away by what I've heard on Hospital - it tended to sound a bit too much like it's trying to be 'mature' and 'musical.' Although I might have missed something. I'm all about Offshore though. And I didn't say that all dnb sounds the same... it's just the 95% that you'd expect from Sturgeon's law.

For listening to things, the mixes forum at DOA is pretty handy, particularly if you can handle the ENORMOUS sigs.

Well, this thread was originally about DnB, and as I read it I recalled a particular evening when I was listening to the electronic radio show we have here and came to the realization that all the tracks I was hearing in this one DJ's set seemed to follow a very similar formula. So, basically I have to tell myself that they're just using stuff that naturally sounds fuller and more professional right out of the box and that once I get a little better at tweaking knobs & sliders & whatever it takes to make the speakers breath alittle more, I will be THE GREATEST EVER

what is the name of that bukem track where he sampled the f16 pilot reporting a close encounter?
cant for the life of me remember the title

You can turn them off. Most people do.

There was an era where it was cool in all electronic genres to put jet samples in tunes...that could be any track.

For the most part, when dance musicians 'try to get away from the requirements of the dancefloor' and 'standard templates' and produce something that's more 'musical' and more about 'self expression' they end up with something that
a) is actually less inventive than the dancefloor sounds and
b) inolves hour long neo-prog choral wankathons. Naming no names.

The need to produce something that'll one-up all the other tunes that a DJ plays that night often seems to be much more of a spur to creativity than the desire to be 'progressive.'
