DarkWare presents FX Jockey:

A semi-modular vector controlled stereo multi-FX unit.

FX included are Panning (can be AutoPan), Filter (AutoSweep too for resonance effects), BitCrushing, Stereo Phaser, Stereo Granulars, Stereo Flanger, Stereo Pitchshifting, MultiDelay, and internal Stereo Reverb.

All FX have their own vector controls for realtime tweaking, and their own LFOs for sweep effects. Individual vectors can be synced with master vector for "one joystick to rule them all", and with master LFO for "one LFO to enhance them all".

GUI enhancements galore with complete visual feedback system so you'll instantly know what's on and what's off, and what FX are doing what.

Uses include realtime manipulation of source material in a dynamic manner, using selected vector joystick interfaces (live tweakfests galore). Or for sound design, using LFOs and multiple bypass sliders to automate audio enhancements.

Extremely wide range of sounds available, from subtle nuances to full on chaotic destruction. Here are some demo MP3s:

This demo is of a drumloop cycled through the presets.

This demo is of a music piece being tweaked in realtime using resonance effects.

This demo is of a drumloop being tweaked with pitchshift and bitcrush effects to create a theremin-alike essence.

To give FX Jockey a go, head on over here and download it.

The .ZIP file includes a manual with visual aids.

If you do decide to give FX Jockey a try, please post feedback with your thoughts, I would appreciate it. I've spent 50 hours in the last 4 days creating this beast, so I would really like to know what other people think, thanks. :)

said elsewhere its sounds are awesome.
gimme a few days battlin with her and well see about some proper feedback.
like i say at the moment im just in that WHA! awe type state

so far vectory is sounding excellent but gonna try some pads and other biths through it :D

I forgot to mention CPU usage. :dog:

On my P4 2.4Ghz average use is >10% CPU. With every possible thing on, all LFOs, and FX, and vectors and all that, total CPU usage spikes at >26%. All of you 3Ghz folks, or 64bit-ers, should have even better results no problem.

Thanks Vurt, I know you'd like this one, that's why I named one of the presets after you.

HI

Does sound (and look) interesting - I found it to be more like 15%+ on my internet 2.26Ghz CPU.

Any slimming down of CPU usage would be worthwhile - don't those meters use up juice?

That first pre-set indeed ROX though!

Flipper.

Thanks for giving it a try! :D

At this point I don't know about going back and trying to reoptimize even more... really depends on how popular the plug is. If it's popular enough, maybe a slimline V2.0, and more Jockey-style plugs.

Still, the first preset starts with ALL FX on. Try using some of the other presets and see what happens with your CPU. Or..., try the preset "Clean Slate" and just turn on the bitcrusher or something, I think you'll see that your CPU is far less eaten.

Also, even at 15%, you've got 9 FX going at once, try putting 9 VSTs in a row (that support GUIs, not host GUIs) and you'd probably end up with that CPU rate easily enough.

Also I'd like to point out that the .TXT manual in .ZIP file has a lot of tips and pointers in it, I consider it required reading to really get into this plug. Definitely RTFM material folks. ;)

:o :o :o :-o :-o :-o

id say peaking aroun 10% on my pentium 2.8 gig.

which while being high for one fx insert when you actually consider what its got going on under thehood isnt bad at all

This is the first I've heard of this error. What host are you using?

Under FL Studio 5, I've not had any sort of this, nor under running the VST in SynthEdit. The folks above haven't seemed to have this error either, so I am quite concerned. :(

I would suggest turning your sequencer ON inside your host and then press the button to remove the nag screen. If that doesn't work I'll need to cull more feedback to determine the problem.

If anyone else has had this problem please let me know immediately, and what host you are using, thank you!

This is a fun thing, Jack. It took me a bit to get oriented with everything in the GUI, but I like the way you've set everything up. It makes for an interesting noise maker.

Some thoughts on possible future versions:
- It would be great to be able to change the signal flow order of each effect.
- Further to that, what is the order of the effects?
- A solo button for the effects would be great, so you could quickly mute everything else to hear what a single effect is actually producing.
- A general revision of the parameter naming would be valuable. For instance, are the x and y values of each joystick mappable to MIDI or automation? They don't seem apparent in the list of parameters showing.
- I didn't find the scopes provided any useful feedback on what I was doing to the sound.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks! 8)

>It makes for an interesting noise maker.

I find myself hearing it in my sleep now. But, 50 straight hours of doin' that will do that I guess...

>It would be great to be able to change the signal >flow order of each effect.

This -is- doable. When I first began constructing the plug I wasn't sure how to do that, but now, I could do that for V2.0. Using the bypass sliders creatively, you can make each FX take precedance over the other, constructing something of your own signal chain in the process.

>Further to that, what is the order of the effects?

Phaser > Flanger > Pitchshift > Grains > BitCrush > Delay > Filter > Pan > Reverb --- But like I said before this is alterable using bypass sliders.

>A solo button for the effects would be great, so you >could quickly mute everything else to hear what a >single effect is actually producing.

Doable for V2.0, should it come to exist. Nice idea.

>A general revision of the parameter naming would be >valuable. For instance, are the x and y values of >each joystick mappable to MIDI or automation.

In V2.0 they could be. Knew MIDI-this-that would come up, but I focused on in-house vector control for inclusive focus. Hard for me to test external MIDI controls due to lack of hardware.

>They don't seem apparent in the list of parameters >showing.

What host are you using to view this list of parameters?

>I didn't find the scopes provided any useful feedback >on what I was doing to the sound.

Eyecandy, guilty pleasure, sorry. :)

I really appreciate the feedback, this is the kind of quality constructive criticism I need to hear in order to have any hope of ever upgrading a device. Though, positive comments on what -is- good are always welcome too. :D

Audiomulch. Lets you see all exposed parameters for automation. Lets you flip to a generic VST GUI, too.

I figured about the scopes, I just had a compulsion to say it.

Thanks for the signal flow outline, that will prove useful. I haven't gotten to know it well enough for elaborate specific praise yet. I really like the global joystick set-up.

Im using Sonar 4.0.4. Just tried it again and same result. The light in the end nag button goes off, but screen stays.

Ive done a reinstall etc but will try redownloading and start from scratch.
