the answer is:

You need to use Elevayta's "Extra Boy" plugin.

It's a VST plugin, which means you need to use a VST host application to run it in. Something like Steinberg Wavelab, Cubase/Cubasis, Cakewalk Sonor, Ableton Live, Audiomulch, etc.

Learning to use those apps, render out final audio, install and use plugins etc. is a seperate question, but hey! you have an answer.

the answer is no,once recorded in stereo its there.
however you can filter out some of the voice to leave mainly the tune,depends on filter freqs and sht.
as for karaoke versions well theyre available for most pop hits

It is actually possible to remove all trace of vocals from a track. However, you need to have two sample accurate mixdowns - one complete mix, one just the vocal track. Since its virtually impossible to get this, its practically impossible to perform the process.

But to those interested you could try it out on your own work:

- Mix down the full mix
- Mix down the track you want to remove
- Reverse the phase on one mix
- Mix the two together at 0dB

Make sure that they are both sample accurate in terms of time, and that there is not main buss processing.

I wonder though if things like this will ever occur in the future (if not already)?

I mean in graphics you can cut someone out of an image and have software fill in the hole right?.. (I'm no graphics person so maybe someone like BONES can respond)

if this is true then why not with audio? just define a frequency pattern, cut that out of the song file, then digitally/mathematically fill in the frequency 'hole' that was left from the cut.. easy enough eh?

The image is static, the music is not. It's quite a bit harder to do what you say with a moving image - remove someone's image from a movie, although I have seen it done in a graphics application called 'smoke'. When I saw this done, it was a frame by frame process and the user seemed to have to pick the background that was blanked from a different frame in the movie, paste it into the hole, repeat for next frame. It was for a Chevrolet Cobalt advertisement.

You can already do something pretty close in Audtion using the spectral domain editing feature. Using a marquis draw tool you can isolate frequencies and delete em, or use this to apply specific processing on those areas.

Also, Audition has a pretty decent center channel extraction algo, but Paul's the Underdog, so we gotta boost that guy..

ive taken the vocals out of quite a few songs. Never perfectly but when the isolated vocal is compressed and eq'd and put in new music correctly it can sound pretty natural.
