Hey guys. Just was thinking today what I could do nice for the community for Christmas. Well, I had some piano samples I was planning on using in an upcoming project but... Here they are, for free, in the spirit of giving :D

Details:
-60mb
-stereo
-natural-decaying, no loops

I ran two public-domain piano midis through it, added a bit of verb, and created these two mp3s so you can hear it before downloading:
Demo1
Demo2

Finally, you can download it by visiting the link in my signature, and scrolling down to 'freebies'. Its about a 30mb download. Merry Christmas to all! :D :)

PS-I'm thinking about posting a Soundfont version of this. Would that be useful to anyone?

Post

Cheers, floyd. Thanks and Merry Christmas :). I'm indifferent to a soundfont version.
Regards, Mike

Thanks for this Jeremy, I look forward to it. sf2 would be the bomb.

Post

You're welcome guys :)

I can easily post the sf2 - however it doesn't sound near as good since sf2 can't route velocity > filter cutoff (at least I couldn't figure out how)

Post

Well, regardless, the sf2 version has now been posted :) Once again, follow the link in my sig.

I think the sf2 version would be most usable if you import it into a sampler like Kontakt, Halion, NNXT etc. where you can add a velocity > filter cutoff modulation. I don't think it will sound that great in sfz though...

Thanks alot floyd, and Merry Christmas! :D

Will try the soundfont as I don't have Wusik Station, thanks for the freebie!!! :D

Thanks floyd, happy holidays.
The armchair is more than the sum of the bastards

Thanks Floyd...guess I'll have to go and get myself WS as a christmas present now :D
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

Thanks!! Am DL'ing as we speak.

Happy Holidays!

Cheers guys :D Hope you find the piano useful. I'm no expert piano player, but I was pretty surprised how good it sounds playing that Liszt piece...

Downloaded the soundfont, the sound quality is good but the sf is not to loud, I have to put a gain volume control effect to hear it at a comfortable volume. Are the samples normalize (I guess it is but we never know)?

Post

Hi SampleScience. Yes, just double-checked, each sample is normalized. I guess its just not a particularly 'loud' piano?

I found that in loading the soundfont in sfz and slightly tweaking the cutoff in sfz (using NicFit's sfz Buddy), that the sound suddenly became much brighter and louder. It's as if the soundfont was saved with cutoff adjusted way down.

Hmm, I will investigate that. I don't think I did anything with the cutoff but its possible. I was messing around trying to get vel > cutoff...
